Stillwater Music is Durango's premier music education hub. We believe that music enriches our community and that EVERYONE–regardless of background– should have the opportunity to experience the joy of music. We break down financial and social barriers to music participation by granting over $45k in youth scholarships each year, offering inclusive music classes to public school students at no cost, providing early childhood music classes across our region, and giving over 30 performances a year in the four corners area.
Enriching our community through a variety of musical experiences

Our students love Stillwater!
"The value of Stillwater to Durango and the surrounding area is unmatched in the state, maybe even in the nation. You've got some of the best teachers, you have an amazing support group with the parents and volunteers, and what you get out of it enriches the life of the community with the shows and performances that come out throughout the year…and integrating different age groups so you have a brother-sister mentor program for the children of the community to keep them out of trouble. They have a safe place, so it's community building that comes out of playing music."
"I have found a deeper love for music and the environment that surrounds it while taking lessons at Stillwater. Everyone there loves what they do to create beautiful music. It is such a healthy learning environment for anyone who wants to further their education in music. I heavily recommend Stillwater as a place to pursue a welcome environment to further the love of music." -Jack, violin private lesson student
"When I look at Stillwater, I see this unique approach. They put these kids in a band, right away, no matter what their levels are. I look forward to playing with other people. Being a drummer, it’s just not a lot of fun to play by yourself. The real fun, what is really fulfilling, is playing with other people. You end up making friends. It’s really become a fun part of my life, and I’ve made some good friends." -Jeff, adult band student
