Description

Stand for Children Colorado Advocacy Fellows are frontline advocates for policy solutions towards improved and equitable education systems and communities. With the support of Stand staff, Advocacy Fellows hone their organizing skills, stories of self, and knowledge of some of the top educational and racial issues in Colorado today. Through trainings, one on one coaching, and collaborative team workshops, Fellows learn how to leverage their personal and collective power to make change on behalf of Colorado's kids. 2021 Fellows have authored op-eds, given testimony at the Capitol, spread issue awareness in their communities, and hosted events for other parents, educators and community members.

This year's Fellows will advocate policy change at the state, district, and school level in areas such as improving early literacy, strengthening high school success, and increasing teacher diversity. Your donation will provide Fellows with laptops, stipends, trainings, and interpretation services.

Evidence of Program's Success

Parent leaders, Ruby and Natalie, shared the impact the Fellowship had on them.

"What I loved most about the fellowship was that no matter where you come from or where you're going, the program teaches you how you can use your story to inspire others. Having the right leadership and people around you make a difference," said Ruby, Parent Advocacy fellow.

"The most important work of the moment in education is making sure every child no matter the color, status, or problems they face daily, deserve the best education, they deserve the same opportunities as any other child who statistically will do better. Our children deserve to know the education they have now will set them up to be whatever they want to become as adults. But right now, we are failing our children and there is a lot of work to do.", said Natalie, Parent Advocacy Fellow. She added, "I learned I am a leader... I found an inner voice that was hidden and now I'm not afraid to use it."
