Beneficiaries

Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)
Military/Veterans
Poor/Economically Disadvantaged
Single Parents

Description

Habitat offers "a hand up, not a handout." Home applicants complete a rigorous selection process based on need, willingness to participate and partner in programs, and ability to repay an affordable mortgage. Selected families must complete training programs that teach self-reliance for basic human services, work up to 500 hours of "sweat equity" toward the construction of a home, and repay the entire cost of their home to the affiliate through monthly mortgage payments that are set at 27% of the family income. Habitat homeowner mortgage payments support the construction of future homes in our community. In addition to local building, HFHSVV sponsors home building globally through its tithe program. Currently, we tithe in partnership with Habitat for Humanity in Cambodia, Lesotho, Armenia, and Paraguay.

Description

In October 2006, the ReStore opened as a thrift retail outlet for home supplies and building materials. The ReStore sells donated overstocked, new, used, discontinued and salvageable building materials donated by manufacturers, stores, contractors and individuals. Net proceeds from the store provide HFHSVV additional funding to support the affiliate's programs. In addition to financial support of HFHSVV, the store provides low-cost home supplies and building materials to people in the St. Vrain Valley while diverting unnecessary waste from the landfill.
