Habitat offers "a hand up, not a handout." Home applicants complete a rigorous selection process based on need, willingness to participate and partner in programs, and ability to repay an affordable mortgage. Selected families must complete training programs that teach self-reliance for basic human services, work up to 500 hours of "sweat equity" toward the construction of a home, and repay the entire cost of their home to the affiliate through monthly mortgage payments that are set at 27% of the family income. Habitat homeowner mortgage payments support the construction of future homes in our community. In addition to local building, HFHSVV sponsors home building globally through its tithe program. Currently, we tithe in partnership with Habitat for Humanity in Cambodia, Lesotho, Armenia, and Paraguay.
St. Vrain Habitat has completed 108 homes in its service area. 91 of the families still occupy their home. 25 have paid off their mortgages in full.

HFHSVV is collaborating with The Glens neighborhood in Dacono, Colorado, with the goal of improving the entire community. Habitat builds homes in the neighborhood as well as completes critical home repairs for individuals who own their own home. Habitat helps to bring volunteer and financial resources to The Glens to accomplish the goals identified by the neighborhood coalition.
Habitat is in the process of building its 10th home in The Glens. We have also completed 8 critical repairs primarily for senior citizens. A strong neighborhood coalition has been formed.
