For 49 years, Sportswomen of Colorado has been promoting the participation in sports by females in Colorado.

Thank you, again, for arranging for my volleyball camp fees to be payed for and helping me on my way to attending UNC's 3 day volleyball camp this past July. I gained so many new skills that have overwhelmingly helped with how I play the game, control the ball, and love the sport. I especially enjoyed learning how to jump serve and now work to make it better and better at every practice. I'm very grateful for your part in improving my skills and knowledge of the game.

To promote, honor and empower Colorado girls and women in sport.
Background Statement
Founded in 1974 by the YWCA of Metropolitan Denver, in cooperation with Gart Brothers Sporting Goods Co., Sportswomen of Colorado is recognized as the first community-based organization in the nation to solely honor female athletes, celebrate their achievements and recognize those whose efforts have advanced girls' and women's individual and team sports endeavors. 31 awards, plus a surprise "Sportswoman of the Year" tribute were presented at the inaugural 1975 banquet drawing 225 persons to the YWCA Cultural Center.
Masters Sports awards were launched in 1979, the SWOC Hall of Fame made its debut at the 1982 banquet and the first wheelchair sports award was given at the 1983 banquet.
In 1984, following the 10th anniversary banquet attended by a capacity Marriott Southeast Grand Ballroom crowd of 450, the SWOC organization became independent with the support of corporate and individual sponsors.
Today, as the largest women's sports organization in Colorado, it has recognized over 2,000 athletes, coaches, and mentors at its Annual Awards Celebration.
In 2001, SWOC initiated its camp scholarship program and has sent over 900 economically-disadvantaged young girls to sports camps throughout the state.
