"As parents, we have been so impressed with the compassion for and care given to our son by the Six Points staff. He has really excelled in Gunnison due to the personal attention he receives and the staff's professionalism in dealing with his needs." --Parents of a Client

"My brother was one of the original Six Points clients in 1977. For all these years, his life has been greatly enriched by his association with Six Points. As his caregiver, I am at a loss to find the words to express what Six Points has meant to my brother and his family. Six Points has enabled him to enjoy a meaningful and productive life, and has supported me as well. For all of this, I am so grateful!" --Sister of a Client

Mission

The mission of Six Points is to enhance the lives of the people we serve so they may reach their highest potential.

The purpose of Six Points Evaluation and Training is to provide advocacy, assistance, community, education, integration, and training to the people we serve in Gunnison and Hinsdale Counties of Colorado to enhance their well-being, personal dignity, independence, and vocational opportunities.

Background Statement

In 1972, concerned citizens and parents met to address the lack of employment and training opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities in our area. After numerous meetings with local and state officials regarding the structuring of services, Six Points Association was officially formed in 1975 to provide vocational habilitation and employment opportunities for the developmentally disabled in the area. In July 1981, Six Points Evaluation and Training, Inc. filed Articles of Incorporation with the State of Colorado. The Six Points Thrift Store opened its doors for business in 1985 to provide more structured employment and enhanced training for clients. The Residential Program was added in 1989 to provide housing and in-home personal assistance to enable clients to live on their own. In 1998, the Supported Living Services program was added, which helps eligible clients remain in the least restrictive living and employment environments. Today, the Thrift Store serves as a critical resource of affordable goods and donation venue for second-hand merchandise for the entire Gunnison valley, and most importantly, continues to provide employment and training for many clients. In 2009, Six Points purchased two commercial lots directly west of the Gunnison Community Center as a site for a new facility. In 2010, Six Points embarked on a Capital Campaign to construct a new training center and Thrift Store, doubling the size of its former leased site. The new facility was constructed and operations there commenced in December 2014.
