Description

Silver Key's Veterans Companionship Services began through the organization being selected as a National Demonstration Pilot Program in partnership with AmeriCorps and the Veterans Administration. This program provides essential daily assistance to senior Veterans and their spouses who wish to remain independent and aging in place in their homes. In home and telehealth Services are provided by trained volunteers - most of whom are also Veterans - and range from assisting with errands, driving to medical appointments, meals out, grocery shopping, going on walks and nature outings, connecting virtually with family and friends, and light housekeeping help around the house. Veterans who are able to pay for companionship services also receive nutrition meals,

Silver Key's V.E.T.S. Companionship program has received national media coverage for its work with senior Veterans and their spouses helping to keep these honored community citizens alive, healthy, safe, nourished, and independent in their homes. This three-year federally-funded demonstration program is now transitioning to Silver Key's new AmeriCorps Seniors R.S.V.P. volunteer program - connecting compassionate volunteers to senior Veterans in need. Silver Key is seeking funding to expand and sustain this incredible program!

Description

Reassurance+ provides companionship along with a hot meal to seniors, to help them remain independent with dignity, in their own home for as long as possible. Reassurance+ combines comforting companionship and a delicious meal into a complete package for seniors. We like to think of it as "caring for you, like family". We offer an hour per visit of trained and supportive companionship in the client's home that includes a hot delicious and nutritious meal.

The Reassurance + program launched in January 2021 and is now serving 20 seniors through highly trained, compassionate volunteers who are screened and matched with the clients. This is a private pay program,
designed to expand Silver Key's home-delivered meals program into a friendly "Reassurance" well-check opportunity to help alleviate social isolation and loneliness.

Our Volunteer Impact Program (V.I.P.) focuses on new and innovative ways for people to engage at every age. This service emphasizes volunteer engagement opportunities, health and wellness, civic engagement and lifelong learning to develop skills, knowledge and participation leading to increased community, life satisfaction and well-being for senior veterans and aging adults. As COVID-19 health restrictions apply, most programs and events will be held either virtually or at the Silver Key Community Rooms located at 1655 S. Murray Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80916. One-time registration is required.

Silver Key has relied on compassionate volunteers for over 50 years of our service in the Pikes Peak region. Currently, we have 560 volunteers providing more than 52,500 in donated hours per year. Our volunteers thrive on service to our senior community.

Silver Key's Food Pantry is the largest in southern Colorado. We are Care and Share's largest distribution point serving 2,755 senior clients - and growing every month. We are in urgent need of funding and food donations to serve our Food Pantry clients, especially during the pandemic.

Silver Key's Health & Wellness services involve Case Management, Resource and Housing Navigation, Guardianship, Senior Veteran Companion assistance, the SOS "Senior Outreach Services" Behavioral and Mental Health services, Calls of Reassurance, and the Client Choice Food Pantry. Over 2,500 senior clients are assisted annually with benefit forms, insurance, housing rental agreements, emergency rental and utility payment assistance, connections for free or low-cost hearing aids and glasses, essential food supplies and much more.

Silver Key's clients report a 96% satisfaction rating of all services received through our Senior Assistance program. 86% of our clients report their lives have improved, thanks to help from Silver Key. Reserve & Ride Transportation Services

Silver Key's Reserve & Ride Transportation services provides arm-in-arm, door-to-door ADA accessible transportation for medical appointments, shopping, congregate meals, social activities, recreation trips, and more. Recurring daily, weekly, or monthly rides can be scheduled upon request.

Silver Key's Transportation fleet provides over 40,000 rides annually to 1,450 senior clients, totaling over 400,000 miles annually. The testimonials we receive on a regular basis underscore our customer satisfaction survey data: rides from Silver Key are making significant life-changing improvements for thousands of seniors who have no other access to the essentials they need to live and thrive independently. Our paid and volunteer drivers are all trained to provide excellence in customer care and physical aid to our Reserve & Ride Transportation clients.

Silver Key's comprehensive Nutrition Services consists of Meals on Wheels, Home Delivered Meals and 13 Connections Cafe social meals programs at locations throughout Colorado Springs and El Paso County, serving more than 1000 aging adults on average per day. Our Home Delivered Meals and Meals on Wheels programs provide home-delivered, hot, nutritious meal and companionship services for homebound seniors. Sliding scale payments based on income are available for those with limited means. Silver Key's Food Pantry is one of the largest and most accessible "client choice" pantries in the Pikes Peak region, serving more than 1800 Food Pantry clients monthly, providing essential nutrition to seniors facing food access barriers, including those who do not qualify for government programs.

Silver Key's Nutrition Program is one of the three core services we provide to aging adults residing in El Paso County. The demand for these services is continually increasing, evidenced by steadily increasing numbers of seniors accessing these programs and our Food Pantry.
