Mission Statement

To create champions on and off the mountain by developing life skills and providing growth opportunities through participation in sports.

Organization History

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Foundation serves as the philanthropic arm of the SSWSC. The Foundation exists to support the SSWSC mission and ensure the long term vitality of the organization. The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club has a 100+ year legacy and tradition of enriching the lives of thousands of children and young adults in our community.

SSWSC produces outstanding, world-class athletes and individuals. We have achieved this enduring success through a committed and dedicated team of staff, coaches and community volunteers.

We offer programming in a variety of winter sports disciplines, including Alpine, Nordic, Snowboard, Nordic combined, Special Jumping, Freestyle, Freeskiing, Telemark and Alpine Snowboard, with a focus on challenging athletes to give their best and achieve their personal goals.

We build character, self-confidence, sportsmanship, and self-esteem as our athletes develop, all the while fueling a life-long love of winter sports. We partner with our community. We coach every individual to their highest level of athletic and personal performance.

To date, nearly 25,000 kids have participated in our athletic and educational programs, with 95 Olympians, 165 Olympic appearances in 20 Winter Games representing 12 countries. tied to the club's heritage and 16 Olympic medals. No other club in North America has produced more Winter Olympians. Nationally SSWSC has produced the most Olympians per capita in the U.S.

The SSWSC has been named U.S. Ski & Snowboard "Club of the Year" four times - the most of any club in the U.S.

Testimonials

Kenzie Radway, 18, SSWSC Athlete since 2005 - Moguls High Performance. Won the 2019 (NoRam) North American Moguls Tour. "My coaches are everything. They taught me how to persevere, be supportive of my teammates, to be kind to others, and to show thought and kindness through all of my actions and words. This is the healthiest environment in my life."

AJ "Axton" Juneau, 16, SSWSC Athlete since 2017 - Snowboard Junior Team "I think it really helps me to have a solid team throughout the season. My teammates have different skills and share those with me when I am training. I am building my confidence in a safe, challenging, fun, supportive and energetic place!" Juneau was awarded the Ritter Memorial Courage Cup. The trophy is awarded to a member of the Winter Sports Club - skier, coach or parent - whose courage is an inspiration to others.

Bode Flanigan, 17, SSWSC Athlete since 2008 - Alpine U19 "I think in joining the SSWSC, you get a second home and second community with people who care about you and who want to see you succeed both as an athlete and as a person. And really, you just get a whole support group and a whole other experience outside what is in your day to day life."
