Routt County Riders

A nonprofit organization

Routt County Riders contributes thousands of volunteer hours annually to trail and open space maintenance and to rider education and outreach efforts in the community. We run programs that increase access to cycling for all community members and encourage cycling as a greener form of transportation.

Mission

Routt County Riders advocates to implement positive change for cyclists in Northwest Colorado. We achieve our mission through community outreach, volunteer work days, safety, and by increasing connectivity and diversity of cyclist amenities.

Background Statement

Routt County Riders started as an informal club in the early 1990s with a group of mountain bikers interested in building and maintaining trails in the Yampa Valley. By the early 2000s, local road cyclists started showing up to meetings asking for representation to advocate for safer roads. As interest and membership grew, we began to support programs and scholarships for youth cycling, community cycling initiatives and advocacy, and both mountain and road cycling events. Starting around 2013, RCR became a driving force behind the 2A lodging tax allocation to the original Trails Alliance Proposal - planning, motivating and constructing many miles of the new trail inventory in the area. RCR ran its own paid trail crew from 2014-2019.

Today, we are an accredited nonprofit organization and International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) Chapter club that continues to grow and advocate for all aspects of cycling. We are a volunteer-based, membership-driven organization. As a bicycle advocacy group, we offer input to and through numerous governmental agencies including: CDOT, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Routt County, the City of Steamboat Springs, Steamboat Resort, and others. We work to advocate for, promote, and enhance all forms of cycling on trails, roads, and pathways in Routt County, and increase equitable access to cycling and the outdoors.
