Rocky Mountain Youth Sports

For more than 18 years, Rocky Mountain Youth Sports has positively impacted thousands of young athletes and families throughout Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming. Over the years, our programs have helped young people grow not only as athletes, but also as students, teammates, leaders, and members of their communities.

As youth basketball in Northern Colorado continues to evolve, so are we.

Beginning this fall, Rocky Mountain Youth Sports is entering a new chapter. While we are moving away from operating as a traditional club basketball program, we decided that the Rocky Mountain Youth Sports name and the impact it has had in our community for nearly two decades should continue.

Moving forward, we will focus on creating and supporting affordable basketball opportunities for young people throughout our community. Rocky Mountain Youth Sports plans to provide camps, clinics, tournaments, player-development opportunities, and other basketball programming designed to make the game more accessible to families.

A major part of our mission will also be helping remove financial barriers that prevent young athletes from participating in basketball. Through donations, sponsorships, and community partnerships, we hope to provide scholarships and financial assistance to families who may otherwise be unable to afford quality basketball opportunities.

Our goal is bigger than developing better basketball players. We want sports to be a vehicle for teaching young people discipline, teamwork, confidence, leadership, accountability, and other lessons that will benefit them long after they leave the court.

As we begin this next chapter, our vision is to:

  • Provide affordable camps, clinics, tournaments, and basketball development opportunities.
  • Create scholarship opportunities for youth facing financial barriers.
  • Partner with coaches, organizations, schools, and businesses throughout Northern Colorado.
  • Expand access to quality basketball instruction and competition.
  • Continue using basketball to impact young people and our community positively.

Rocky Mountain Youth Sports has been part of this community for far too long to let its mission disappear. Instead, we are building on 18 years of history and creating a new path for the organization, one focused on access, opportunity, development, and giving back.

Your donation helps make that possible. Every contribution helps us provide more opportunities, reduce costs for families, and ensure finances do not prevent a young person from experiencing the benefits of youth sports.

We are excited for the next chapter of Rocky Mountain Youth Sports and hope you will help us continue making an impact for years to come.

Testimonials

"Rocky Mountain Fever Basketball has been such an excellent experience for my son and our family. They try to accommodate everyone with their practice schedules and fundraising programs. Communication is another strength of the Fever organization as they provide continual support to all its teams. Fever Basketball works hard to focus on the development of every player. The experience my son has received playing basketball under the top-notch coaches has been invaluable. Our son continues to improve every day. The coaches are extremely encouraging and caring. They are a great role model for our kids having the highest regard and respect for the teams that they train. Thank you Fever Basketball for providing such a great opportunity for my son and Northern Colorado to compete in basketball."

- The Pryor Family

"With our involvement in Fever that includes both of our sons, it appears to me you are doing things very well and trying very hard to operate a first class operation. We appreciate this. Thanks for all you did to make our sons' basketball experience an outstanding one. It was everything we'd hoped for and more. Thank you so much."

-The Seng Family

"The Fever Basketball club has always provided a positive environment for my son to play basketball. They provide many activities (practices, leagues, tournaments, clinics, open gyms) for him to develop his skills and have fun. As a bonus, he has made lots of friends. We really appreciate the staff and coaches who lead the Rocky Mountain Fever Basketball Club. They are great!"

-The Childs Family

"We really love the organization and appreciate how organized you all are. Our kids have participated in many other organizations and Fever by far is the best in many aspects! Although the club is not inexpensive as former participants in Arsenal, Storm, Fort Collins Baseball Club, Various Swim Teams, and Ballet, Fever is a tremendous value and worth every penny of the fee."

Mission

Rocky Mountain Youth Sports, founded in 2008, is dedicated to creating accessible and affordable basketball opportunities for youth throughout Northern Colorado and surrounding communities.

Our mission is to use basketball as a tool to develop confident, disciplined, and well-rounded young people while removing financial barriers that can prevent families from participating in quality youth sports.

RMYS provides and supports camps, clinics, tournaments, player-development programs, and other basketball opportunities for young athletes of all backgrounds and skill levels. Through scholarships, community partnerships, sponsorships, and affordable programming, we strive to ensure that more young people have the opportunity to learn, compete, grow, and experience the positive impact of sports.

Beyond basketball development, our goal is to help young athletes build character, teamwork, leadership, accountability, and confidence; skills that will serve them on the court, in the classroom, and throughout their lives.

Background Statement

OUR BEGINNING

Shannon Lopez and Dorsi Smith founded the first non-profit basketball organization in Northern Colorado, Rocky Mountain Youth Sports (RMYS), in 2008. Shannon and Dorsi saw a need to provide quality basketball programs to local youth that focused on athletic skill development and character development. The original program design included a summer club program called "Rocky Mountain Fever" and a winter "Juniors" program designed to allow basketball players to play in a feeder program for their respective high schools. Since 2008, RMYS has formed well over 120 teams competing locally, regionally, and nationally. For over 9 years, some of the regions best players have chosen to play on Fever teams. Dozens of Fever alumni have moved on to play college basketball at different levels including NCAA Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, and NAIA.

OUR FUTURE

Rocky Mountain Youth Sports has continued to evolve since its founding in 2008. In 2016, RMYS entered an important new chapter by expanding its basketball programming and making Rocky Mountain Fever Basketball its primary basketball brand. That transition helped the organization grow its reach and serve more athletes and families throughout Northern Colorado and surrounding communities.

Now, RMYS is entering its next chapter.

Beginning in the fall of 2026, Rocky Mountain Youth Sports will transition away from operating primarily as a traditional club basketball organization and return its focus to its broader purpose: creating opportunities for young people through basketball.

Moving forward, RMYS will focus on providing and supporting camps, clinics, tournaments, player-development opportunities, scholarships, and other community basketball programs. We will work alongside local schools, coaches, businesses, basketball organizations, and community partners to make quality basketball experiences more accessible and affordable for young athletes.

After nearly two decades in our community, we believe the Rocky Mountain Youth Sports name and mission are too important to disappear. Instead, we see this transition as an opportunity to build on our history while creating an organization that can serve an even broader group of young people.

Our future is about access, opportunity, and impact. We want finances to be less of a barrier to participation, provide more opportunities for young athletes to develop, and continue using basketball to teach confidence, discipline, teamwork, leadership, and accountability.

The programs may evolve, but our purpose remains the same: using youth sports to positively impact young people and our community.
