Meal Monkey

Description

Our meal monkey program provides a nutritious lunch each Friday throughout the year. We deliver to four different locations throughout New Castle and Silt.

Proser & Grow - Road to Employment Workshop

Description

Our four day Prosper & Grow workshop focuses on barriers within their lives that are holding them back from employment. The most important component of the program is the mentorship that they receive throughout the process.

We have had two workshops with 11 participants total. We have had 82% or participants graduate and 78% of those receive employment.

Description

Free, or minimal cost, classes to the community such as parenting, finance, healthy nutrition, and gardening. Scholarships are available for those that are unable to pay the minimal charge. Childcare is also provided to make it easier on parents.

Our nutrition and gardening classes have been at capacity in 2018/2019. We have struggled with the finance and parenting class attendance, but are continuing to offer and improve on those.

Winter Coat Distribution

Winter clothing is collected and distributed each October to families from Parachute to Carbondale free of charge.

Back to School Supply Drive

Description

The Back to School supply drive supplies the top needed items to six local schools in New Castle and Silt. These supplies help with low-income families that are unable to supply their full supply lists, and eliminate teachers having to purchase out of their pocket.

Six local schools are given a gift card to help purchase items for their classrooms that students were not able to bring in from their list. We also meet individual student needs through the school counselors requests.

Life Assistance/Handyman

Description

We provide a hand-up for those needing financial assistance with rent, medical, utility, food, clothing, or transportation needs. Any "handyman" requests that come through the River Center are managed by the Life Assistance team.

Community Garden

Description

Our community garden takes up the majority of the River Center front yard. Each year half of the garden is rented out to members of the community who tend their own plots. The other half is tended by staff and volunteers. We were have harvested over 1,200 of pounds of fresh produce to date, which is given out to the Community.

Senior Luncheon

Description

Seniors in our community are welcome to attend the weekly luncheon each Wednesday. There are currently around 25 Seniors that attend. They are provided lunch and have guest speakers. The local schools also participate with musical programs.

Angel Tree

Description

Every child deserves a gift for Christmas and the River Center helps families in need make that happen. We work in conjunction with other organizations throughout the Valley for the Angel Tree program. The River Center supports the New Castle, Silt, and Glenwood Springs areas. Children register through their school counselors.

Totes of Hope

Description

The Totes of Hope program provides a weekly bag of food for the children to take home for use over the weekend. Food is packed and delivered each Wednesday to Elk Creek Elementary, Kathryn Senor Elementary, Cactus Valley Elementary and Riverside Middle School.

During the summer months we deliver roughly 45 bags to three locations.

89 children received weekly food during the 2019-2020school year. We are projecting the same numbers for the 2020-2021 school year.
