Animals

Description

We continually benchmark our performance against the finest, cutting-edge standards in our industry. That includes "best practices" protocols for physical, emotional and behavioral well-being. Not only do we strive to better the physical and mental health of our shelter animals, we want to help prepare them to be highly successful in their adoptive home. An increasing number of local veterinarians work with us to ensure top-notch medical care is always quickly available at minimal cost. In addition to the dedicated efforts of our experienced animal caregivers on staff, we have recruited a large, heroic team of skilled volunteers whose partnership guarantees that critical services are provided to our animals by certified trainers, animal welfare professionals, animal behaviorists, groomers, and the loving hands and hearts of extraordinary animal lovers.

Our high adoption rates show that our animals are less stressed, more healthy and adaptable to their new owners.

Expanded Foster Care

Animals

Description

At times our shelter is full. Without having to physicaly enlarge our facility, we can increase our life-saving capacity through a larger foster home network. Foster companions provide enhanced individual attention and a real-home environment that is enriching to all shelter animals and vital to some. They are also often familiar with certain breeds, behavior issues or medical needs that require kid glove treatment.

Of the animals with special needs or circumstances that required foster care this year, all have been accommodated quickly with little stress or trauma and most have been adopted.

Animals

Description

Although pet adoptions are up significantly since moving into our new facilities in June 2011, we continue to refine the way to make "love at first sight" a forever relationship. As our animals are evaluated for temperament, so are our prospective companions, aiming to best match pets that fit their adopters' lifestyles and circumstances, ensuring strong compatibility and matches that last a lifetime. Every adoption includes a thorough process of education, including materials and professional resources so companions have the tools they need to give their new pet the best care possible and an amazing forever home.

Evidence of Program's Success

In 2010, our full last year in our aging and outlying facility, we adopted out 509 homeless pets (112 cats and 397 dogs). Since our move in 2011 to our new home (the remodeled former county shelter which is bigger, and closer to town), our adoptions have increased steadily (1275 in 2015; 395 cats and 880 dogs).
