Testimonials

"REACH has been a tremendous benefit to our son and our entire family. Learning in an inclusive environment has helped my son not only enjoy being in school, but has helped him become more socially adept and conscious of the world around him. REACH is truly a unique and tight-knit community of caring individuals who are committed to ensuring student success. My family and I are committed to seeing the school continue to thrive." ---John C. Ronquillo, Ph.D., Parent and Board Member

"REACH has been a wonderful environment for my son to learn and grow. Everyone at REACH really values the importance of different learning styles and gives my son the opportunity to learn in his own unique way. Because of the fully inclusive environment my son has greater compassion for friends with different abilities and access to a wide range of teaching methods that encompasses the arts and sciences to make learning fun. I have never seen such a caring group of teachers that truly spend the time to get to know my child and really brainstorm different ways to help him thrive in his educational environment." ---Mollie Crow, Parent

"I have two little people who attend REACH, and they absolutely love this school! The administration, teachers, and staff are dedicated, caring, and thoughtful as it concerns every aspect of the education their students receive.Through project based learning and sensory play, my children have thrived intellectually and socially. They know that their teachers truly care for them, and that has been awesome to see. Everyone is so kindhearted, and truly seeks to create a community of scholars who value diversity and inclusion. This atmosphere can be felt within the parent community as well. My family and I are very pleased with REACH, and are thankful for such a positive experience." ---Natalie Crump, Parent

Mission

Mission

The mission of REACH is Reimagining Excellence for All in a Community with Heart.

Vision

At REACH collaborative teams of teachers work together with flexible groups of students to meet the unique needs of every child, even children who have typically not been included in general education classrooms. Excellence, in addition to high academic standards also includes developing empathy, self-regulation, collaboration skills and creativity. All students include English Learners, low income students, students with a wide range of disabilities, gifted students and general educations students. Each child is unique and each child deserves an education experience tailored to his/her unique needs. When students who are struggling make progress, all students make progress. REACH will be a caring community of students, educators and families who work together to solve problems, support each other and grow as self-reflective learners.

Background Statement

REACH Charter School opened its doors in Fall 2015 with the mission "to provide an inclusive Pre-K to 5th grade school in near Northeast Denver in which educators and families Reimagine Excellence for All in a Community with Heart." Currently in its third year of serving students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse abilities, REACH has become a viable elementary SchoolChoice option for families throughout metro Denver.

The idea for REACH was conceived in 2013 when parents of both neurotypical students and students with disabilities who were attending early childhood programs at the Sewall Child Development Center lamented that their children would no longer be able to continue learning side-by-side in an inclusive setting when they moved to their neighborhood schools. Therefore, they, along with Sewall staff, developed a proposal to create a fully inclusive PreK through Grade 5 school. REACH Charter Elementary School was authorized by the Denver Public Schools (DPS) on June 12, 2014 and became among the first DPS charters to provide all instruction within single classrooms with highly diverse groups of learners---student with and without disabilities, gifted students, students at risk, English language learners, and students from every socioeconomic level.

In August 2015, REACH opened the doors to its initial students in its preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades 1 and 2. REACH currently enrolls students through Grade 4.

REACH received initial programming guidance from Sewall and rents space at Sewall's headquarters located at 940 Fillmore St. in Denver, but is a separate not-for-profit organization.
