Project Bike Tech

A nonprofit organization

At a time when vocational training is diminishing in education many youth are graduating high school with few marketable skills. Bike Tech in School not only helps fill that gap for technical training and usable skills, it also it also introduces youth to the benefits and affordability of bicycling.

Testimonials

Principal Testimonial - "Every kid needs a connection to school. What is one kid's connection is not necessarily the other kid's. In pretty much every community, you
can find kids that interested in bike. They can get in there and work and
build a skill that they might be able to use outside of school and then it
connects with all other potential pathways."

Student Testimonial - "I really like Bike Tech because it is a nice change of pace. We aren't stuck at a desk. We are learning real world, transferrable skills. Because
of this class, I know what I want to be when I grow up!"

Mission

Project Bike Tech's primary program - Bike Tech in School - uses bicycle

education as a conduit to teach Common Core and STEM academics, enhance lives,

create career opportunities and inspire new generations to be passionate about bikes.

It is the on-ramp for young adults to develop a life-long engagement with the bicycle

lifestyle while learning key academic concepts.

Background Statement

The PBT program originally started in California after our Founder, Berri Michel,

worked with the Santa Cruz Department of Education to develop an accredited

curriculum for high schools. It is now a thriving program throughout the Bay Area in

California and is spreading nationwide with a presence in 7 states coast to coast. Over

the years, PBT has successfully impacted more than 4,000 students. Whether

graduates directly enter the workforce or continue on to college, they become aware

of how core academic principles can be applied in real world situations, how cycling

can lead to a healthy and green lifestyle and how to properly present themselves as a

prospective employee regardless of where they pursue a career.
