The redesign and improvements at the Old Town Library entrance will make it more welcoming, safe, accessible and fun for all of our patrons. The entrance to the Old Town Library is active and busy with people entering the Library, using the automated book return or simply enjoying a place to sit outside the Library. Old, uncomfortable and unattractive concrete benches will be removed and replaced with newly designed seating, surrounded by new landscaping creating an inviting plaza.
The focal point will be musical sculpture pieces that encourage play and social interaction. The installation brings a new playful element to every library visit and extends the library experience outside. Worn by considerable activity and foot traffic, weary landscaping will be refreshed. Attractive seating and a playful atmosphere will welcome and benefit all user, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, economics or background.
This project of renewed spaces is well aligned with the Library District's strategic plan. The Library is an inclusive, active catalyst for positive social interaction. We want everyone to feel welcome and enjoy the Old Town Library. These well designed and practical improvements send the signal "welcome" to our Old Town Library.
