Testimonials

These are quotes provided by camper parents:

"From a parent perspective, it gave our daughter a week 'away from it all' while overcoming treatment and being around people who understood where she came from without having to ask. We can never thank you enough. It was the most rewarding week she has experienced."

"My child really enjoyed her time at Nighthawk Ranch. I think it's the only camp around that helps the kids heal through caring for animals. My daughter has always needed to be cared for, so coming to Nighthawk was a big change and in a good way. She has learned that she likes to be the caregiver not the receiver."

"I was thrilled to find the best camp setup I've ever seen, in terms of facility, the quantity and quality of the people involved, the great deal of structure and an emphasis on productive tasks that challenged the girls, the confidence that was inspired in me by interacting with the staff. It meant a lot to me, and my daughter said she really liked attending."

Background Statement

Tom and Dorothy Evans both come from humble backgrounds and were the first members of their families to go to college. Tom became an entrepreneur and founder of ProTreat Technology Corporation, with Dorothy taking on the management role of the company. They settled in Colorado in the late 1060's, have two children (son, Jack, and daughter, Krissy) and four grandchildren. All are active in ranch activities throughout the year.

Nighthawk Ranch was conceived in the late 1990's as a way for Tom and Dorothy to give back to the community by providing a safe healing place for children recovering from cancer to regain their self-esteem and build hope and confidence in their future. The Evans' have strong connections to the cancer community as they have lost family members to this disease as well as Tom being a survivor or prostate cancer. Nighthawk Ranch provides a unique high mountain working ranch experience that encourages achievement through a variety of activities. At the ranch, physical and emotional renewal is supported by fun and challenging activities, good nutrition, exposure to animals and wildlife, good camaraderie, and the spiritual uplifting that nature provides. Reflecting on their vision, Tom states, "We just knew it could work. So we dreamed big, visualized, prayed a lot, figured out a way to make it work and just never gave up- all the things I routinely tell our campers to do in their lives." After eighteen years of hard work, dedication and commitment to serving children with cancer, Nighthawk Ranch became a reality. The first group of campers arrived at camp on June 24, 2012.
