Testimonials

In regards to our raptor center: "I called late afternoon Saturday because my husband had found a very injured Great Horned Owl. I spoke with Kelly who told me how to carefully transport the injured owl, she also offered to have someone come pick it up even though I live over an hour away. My husband and I decided to drive down. We were warmly greeted and welcomed in. Diane examined the owl. Sadly his injuries were too severe. Diane took a lot of time to explain what she was seeing and what her concerns were. She and Kelly took time to teach us about the owl. She was very kind and when the decision was made to euthanize him, she allowed us to be there. She then offered us a tour of the hospital and the facility. I cannot express enough my gratitude for their kindness, concern, and professionalism during a very sad situation." - C.N.

"It is beautiful place and so calming and I enjoy to go there and walk around there the nature around you lets me exercise without thinking that way." - M.R.R.

"This is a true gem! This is one of our family's favorite places to visit!" - K.J.

Mission

The mission of the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo is to provide unique experiences in education, conservation and recreation that inspire environmental stewardship.

Background Statement

The Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo is celebrating 38 years of connecting people with nature. The Audubon River Trails Nature Center was founded in 1979 by the Arkansas Valley Audubon Society to preserve an area where the community could observe, explore, and enjoy nature. In 1981, wildlife rehabilitation was added to the mission with the founding of the Raptor Center. In 1983, The Greenway and Nature Center of Pueblo was incorporated in the state of Colorado as a Nonprofit Corporation and received 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt status. In 2008, the name of the organization was changed to Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo to better reflect the current mission.

The Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo serves Pueblo County and surrounding areas year round through offering environmental education programs for school students, professional development programs in environmental education for teachers, nature programs for families, programs on living sustainability with the environment, summer nature day camps for youth, and a Raptor Center to rehabilitate injured birds of prey and return them to the wild. Visitors can see live raptors such as hawks, owls, falcons and eagles on display.

In addition, the scenic location of the Nature Center along the Arkansas River offers a variety of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Visitors can kayak, tube, canoe, or fish on the river and hike, bike, or roller blade on the paved bicycle trail that travels through the Center and connects to 30 miles of trails. There are also miles of unpaved hiking trails which provide walks through wooded, riparian, and prairie environments. After a hike, visitors can enjoy a meal in the Coyote Grille restaurant with views of the river. The Center is a popular site for outdoor weddings, picnics, and family gatherings with catering available through the Coyote Grille. The gift shop in the Riverfront building offers a variety of nature gifts, field guides, bird feeders, and bird seed.
