Mile High United Way

A nonprofit organization

This is Ermisenda's Story ...

Dear Community,

Where would you turn to give your children hope for a better future? My family turned to Mile High United Way and found life-changing support. When I first arrived in Colorado in 2018, I was focused on creating opportunities for my infant son, Gerard. I didn’t have a clear path forward, but Mile High United Way was there to help.

Every day, Mile High United Way, together with people like you, helps families like mine as we work toward our dreams.

This holiday season, you can help even more families by supporting Mile High United Way this Colorado Gives Day.

My family has been forever changed because of Mile High United Way. Thanks to staff members like Reyna and Juana, I learned how to teach my sons to read. Now, Gerard is thriving in kindergarten and my other son Ian is on the path to success.

I’m very proud to think that my children will reach and accomplish their goals in the future.

I will never forget the joy on my sons’ faces the first time they recieved gifts at Mile High United Way’s annual Children’s Holiday Party. It was the first time someone other than my husband and I had given them a gift. When I come to Mile High United Way, I feel so welcome. People greet me and they know me; I never leave without a hug.

Your support helps make this possible for hundreds of families across Metro Denver.

My children are not the only ones who have benefited. With Mile High United Way’s support, I received my early childhood education teacher and director certifications from the Community College of Denver. These degrees have given me confidence and shown a new path toward a more stable life for my family.

Mile High United Way believes our community is strongest when families have the resources they need to thrive. I invite you to make a gift today so that even more families can receive the essential support they need in the coming year.

From connecting my family to rental assistance when my hours were cut and my husband struggled to find consistent work, to providing books at community events like Back to School Bash, which have helped my sons and also improved my English language skills – Mile High United Way has forever changed my family’s life.

This work is only possible because of supporters like you who understand our community is strongest when every family can achieve their dreams, big or small.

This Colorado Gives Day, I invite you to change another life like you have mine and my family’s.

Please, Give United.

With immense gratitude,

ABOUT US

Mile High United Way supports families.

We believe every person that calls Colorado home deserves the opportunity to thrive.  We connect families to basic needs resources, childcare and education, small business support, quality employment, tax assistance and more.

Your investment in our work changes lives - from making sure children have access to quality early care and education, that young adults transitioning out of the child welfare system have stable housing and families can pay their rent and put food on the table. Last year, over 183,500 lives were impacted by Mile High United Way's direct services and work funded through community partners.

Creating a stronger, more resilient community is only possible when we are united. Over the past year, Mile High United Way provided 252,583 referrals for critical resources such as housing, rent assistance, food and more through the 211 Help Center. This holiday season, you can make sure families get connected to the resources they need to thrive by making a gift today. Thank you for your support!

Mission

Uniting people, ideas and resources to advance the common good.

Through our community programs and initiatives, we support families and focus on our three interconnected Community Priorities: giving all children a strong start, supporting education and academic success, and creating economic opportunity for all.

Background Statement

Mile High United Way was founded in Denver, Colorado, in 1887 with the same vision we have today: everyone in Colorado deserves the opportunity to thrive, and we are stronger as a Community United. A group of visionaries including a Denver woman, priest, two ministers and a rabbi, all who believed there must be a better way to meet the needs of local people, came together on October 16, 1887, and formed what is known today as Mile High United Way. Today, United Way has 1,800 local chapters around the globe.
