Mission

The mission of Mainstreet Steamboat Springs is to preserve, promote and enhance downtown Steamboat Springs. This is accomplished using the 4-Point Approach of Design, Organization, Promotion and Economic Restructuring as prescribed by the National Main Street Center of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Background Statement

MainStreet was started in 2004 by a volunteer group of business people in the downtown area in response to the proposed improvements being proposed for the base of the ski area. The group researched the National Main Street Center and the MainStreet 4-Point Approach as a model for revitaliztion as a means to energize and improve a stagnant downtown area. A board was formed, with additional committees to carry out the 4-Point Approach. At the end of 2004 a program director was hired to direct the program and to move it forward.

Moving forward, the organization has concentrated on improving Downtown Steamboat Springs using the tools of organization (fundraising, volunteer management, membership, and governance), promotion (marketing of the district, retail events, special events and image building), design (anything involving downtown infrastructure, beautification, clean and safe issues) and economic restructuring (helping businesses be better businesses, keeping a complete inventory of all properties and businesses, recruiting businesses for downtown, seminars and trainings).
