Magic Circle Players

A nonprofit organization

YOU can keep the MAGIC of live theatre accessible to all in our community!

The easiest way to ensure Magic Circle Players continues to provide quality, live theatre to the Montrose community and surrounding areas is through a monthly recurring donation.

We are a COMMUNITY THEATRE!  All of our productions and programs – from main stage productions to Youth Theatre drama camps - are the result of the dedication of our roughly 250 volunteers.  We all appreciate your support!

We are proud to be the oldest, continuously-running community theatre on the Western Slope and the second oldest in Colorado!

Please help us keep Magic Circle Players going strong for another 64 years!

Testimonials

My husband & I moved here 5 years ago. Before the move I had season tickets for over 25 years to Broadway shows, Wicked, Cats, Phantom of the Opera, etc. I was sad not having that anymore. We saw Mary Poppins as our first show & fell in love with Magic Circle. This is our third year having season tickets. We keep saying the talent is wonderful & what they can do with the stage is amazing. We look forward to every play.

The quality of every aspect of this production; the setting, the authentic and beautifully crafted costumes and wigs, the magnificent lighting, and the outstanding vocal, delightful dancing and acting performance of each and every actor, the musicians astounded and delighted all of us. This production was comprehensive and masterfully produced - with attention being paid to each and every aspect of theatre -both technical and performance.

Giving Activity

Mission

Magic Circle Players, LTD., is a non-profit organization dedicated to the presentation of quality, live theatre in the Montrose community. Through the efforts of volunteers, Magic Circle strives to entertain, educate, and involve the residents of Western Colorado, young and old, by encouraging an appreciation for the dramatic arts.

Background Statement

Since 1959, when Bette Dustin Spiro, announced, “We are going to put on a play,” Magic Circle Players has provided quality, live theatre to people, young and old, in Montrose and the surrounding communities.

Over the last six and a half decades, we have become woven into the fabric of the community as we have grown from a circle of friends to an organization of roughly 250 volunteers. In 1974, we built our own building, so we now have a 200-seat theatre where we annually produce five main stage productions, two readers theatre productions, a family-oriented Christmas show, and a fundraising benefit (My Funny Valentine).

We also have a thriving YOUTH THEATRE program. Coming out of the pandemic, we are again hosting five Drama Camp workshops for roughly 90 youth and one Youth Theatre On-Stage production (like Disney Aladdin JR) aimed at younger audiences.

In the 2024-2025 season, we will revive our Directors' Training workshops as well as our Youth Theatre Travel Show, which performs for free at elementary schools in Montrose, Ouray, and Ridgway Middle Schools, reaching roughly 2,800 youth yearly - many of whom had never experienced live theatre.
