LEAF offers a human services safety net for people in need in the Greater Lyons area.
LEAF began in 2008 when the pastor of the Lyons Community Church had the compelling idea of starting a Food Pantry and Basic Needs emergency fund. In her role as pastor, she had noticed that there were residents of Lyons who didn't have enough to eat, and that sometimes local people ran into emergencies where they needed help with paying for basic needs like heat, electricity, rent and medical bills. LEAF became its own 501c3 nonprofit in 2016 and is the only human service agency serving the Greater Lyons area exclusively. LEAF currently operates four programs, the Lyons Community Food Pantry, Lyons Meals on Wheels, Basic Needs & Resource Matching, and Mental Wellness & Addiction Recovery. LEAF serves an average of 125 people weekly.
"I think that LEAF is an integral staple in the Lyons community that is established to help prevent the grudges of poverty from interring this community one citizen at a time. I thank you all at LEAF for the much needed assistance over the years that you all have extended to me. In this last case in particular has changed my life for the better over the long run. I really appreciate how deeply concerned you all are about insuring that the assistance you do lend out is going to make the biggest impact on any given situation. LEAF truly does supply a bit of a security blanket, per se, to the residents of Lyons." - a LEAF client
