Lyons Elementary Parent Teacher Organization

A nonprofit organization

We engage parents with Lyons Elementary School to foster strong collaboration with teachers and support for their students. In these socially-distant times, our focus shifted to creative alternatives to our traditional enrichment opportunities that bolster the remote learning environment.

Testimonials

"The Lyons PTO has supported the kindergarteners in many ways; from field trips to supplies, games, and equipment, amazing assemblies and guest speakers. Their generosity with their budget has personally saved me hundreds of my own dollars. However, the most important gift the Lyons PTO has given me can't be seen or touched, it is their love and support of an educator that I hold near and dear to my heart."
- Kate Burns, Kindergarten Teacher, Lyons Elementary School

"I really love all the 'little things' that you all do to make our school just a little bit sweeter than it already is and that makes students, parents and teachers feel special. Recent examples that come to mind are the pumpkins/fall decorations, treats for teachers in the staff room with the great puns and all the landscaping/encouraging words on the fence. You really are a thoughtful bunch!
- Shiryla Johnson, 4th Grade Teacher, Lyons Elementary School

Mission

The Lyons Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization promotes social and educational enrichment through school programs and serves as the financial stewards of resources donated to improve student experience.

Background Statement

The origins of what is now the Lyons Elementary School PTO began in the early 1970s. This group consisted of just a few dedicated parents who had a mission to support the principal and teachers at Lyons Elementary School. The school itself was formed within a year of the town being founded in 1881. It was originally housed in what is now the present day Lyons Redstone Museum.

This dedicated parent group grew in numbers as the student population grew. By the 1980s and 1990s the PTO was becoming a more formal body, but it was not until May of 1996 that the Lyons Elementary School registered as a 501c3 non-profit organization. The PTO currently operates with a Board that consists of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Communications Secretary, Volunteer Coordinator, and Member-at-Large.
