Mission

Our mission at Lion's Gate Sanctuary is to provide a safe haven to captive, wild animals that have been subjected to neglect, abuse, exploitation, or abandonment.

Our goal is to provide these animals with a peaceful, permanent home where they are safe, happy, healthy, and respected.

Background Statement

Almost a decade ago, we rescued an animal sanctuary that was going to have to close its doors due to lack of funding. We poured our hearts and souls and resources into the facility and re-named it Lion's Gate Sanctuary. All of our rescued animals were born in captivity.

Human beings have made a practice of capturing animals from the wild for use in captivity. And then they are bred by the thousands in exotic equivalents to puppy mills.

The illicit exotic animal trade is the third largest source of illegal profits in the world, after illegal drugs and weapons.

These animals have nowhere else to go. It is illegal to release these animals into the wild because they were born in captivity and cannot be rehabilitated into the wild. Zoos won't take them because they cannot ensure their genetic backgrounds.

Domestic animals are extremely lucky to have organizations such as The Dumb Friends League.

These animals only have us.
