For over 43 years, the LaPlata Family Centers Coalition (LPFCC) has been a trusted hub for families across LaPlata County. Our work is shaped by the lived experiences of those we serve-removing barriers like language, transportation, and access to basic needs to build safer, healthier communities.
During fiscal year 2025-2026, LPFCC supported 640 families and 1931 individuals with 47,000 services. Over 78% of those families/individuals were below the poverty line, yet through connection and care, families are building resilience, nurturing relationships, and finding stability. Behind every number is a story- a child with consistent meals, a parent who finds hope, a family that feels safe. Our strength lies in our community-led model. Together, we help individuals and families build stability, self-reliance and a hopeful future.

The La Plata Family Centers Coalition (LPFCC) began in 1984 as a Mother's Center, located in Durango, Colorado, where mothers and their children met for support and socialization. In 1993, the Mother's Center transformed into the Parents Center after a statewide initiative and funding resources shifted to include parents. During that reorganization, the Parents Center expanded to sites in Bayfield, Ignacio, and Fort Lewis Mesa. To include all sites, the name changed to La Plata Family Centers Coalition. In 2014, LPFCC expanded the Access to Healthcare Program into Archuleta County and began co-locating staff at the La Plata Department of Human Services.
In 2015, LPFCC expanded again into Archuleta County with the Colorado Community Response (CCR) program. In addition, LPFCC houses a Family Navigator within the Department of Human Services in Archuleta County who provides Family Support Services (FSS). In 2017, LPFCC expanded the Colorado Community Response (CCR) to La Plata and San Juan Counties in partnership with the La Plata County Department of Human Services. In mid-2017, in an effort to better support families, LPFCC relocated to within a block from La Plata Department of Human Services, and the Early Childhood Council (ECC).
While our programming and location have changed over the years, our mission has not. We continue to strive every day to serve our community by empowering families and individuals.
