"Thanks to Knitting4Peace, we are able to consistently provide essential winter items to our members. It's incredibly meaningful to our clients to be able to rely on these products and also receive beautiful, bright, handmade items. We so appreciate how K4P shows up for this community year after year. We couldn't be more grateful for this partnership." Taylor Traub, Program Coordinator, The Gathering Place, Denver CO, November 2021

"The blankets, booties and hats are such a wonderful addition to our orientation boxes. They're always beautiful, colorful and warm. Our participants always express how having something something handmade is so valuable and meaningful. We're incredibly grateful for this partnership and to be able to get these beautiful items into the community!" Guilia Chioetto, Project Coordinator, MotherWise Colorado, University of Denver, September 2021

"We are so grateful to you for your support and care and love including these beautiful and lovingly made items in our baby bags, Parent Care Bags, and newborn kits. Thank you as well for taking such care in making sure everything is so well cared for ie: your last touched dates, etc. With so many children who are immuno-compromised, this means so much to us and to our sweet families." Jordan Sullivan, Volunteer Coordinator, There With Care Colorado, August 2021

"We would like to send a heartfelt THANK YOU for all the wonderful Peace Pals for our Surgical Mission this past February (in the Phillippines). One of our beloved OR Nurses, Jean Beaver retrieved these special dolls from you all. Our patients loved them and felt more comfortable with them by their side while they underwent surgery. Thanks so much for making their hospital stay more special! We look forward to your support on many missions to come. Sincerely, Hannah Jamsay, Executive Director, Uplift Internationale" - 3/12/2020

"Thank you so so much for thinking of our children at JJ hill in St. Paul MN where Philando Castille was an amazing part of our children's lives. The Peace Pals are adorable and their impact was incredible!" - Rachel Nichols, 9/22/2016

"Our Peace Pod in Beachwood, Ohio has brought together a wonderful group of individuals who didn't know each other before we started our group, and now have become good friends. We produce lovely items and enjoy sharing our lives also." - Iris November, 2/24/2014

Background Statement

As of August 2022, we have delivered over 233,000 items handmade with love to people in 97 countries!

A brief history: after being deeply moved by messages she heard at the Chautauqua Institution (New York) by Sister Joan Chittister, a Benedictine nun, and women peace activists who live in a Jewish-Christian-Muslim community in Israel called Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salaam/Oasis of Peace, founder Susan McKee launched women4women-knitting4peace, on June 25, 2006. People responded, telling friends and family across the United States and Canada about the program.

In 2007 we officially incorporated and in 2008 we were awarded status as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We celebrated our fifth anniversary (2011) with the completion of over 14,000 items and personal deliveries in 38 countries.

Now known as Knitting4Peace, we continue to expand, attracting new members to our work and making personal deliveries in more and more communities around the world and close to home. We partner with schools, medical facilities, and community assistance agencies to distribute the requested items.

We hired our first paid part-time Executive Director in June 2018, bringing new opportunities to expand our work. We have 1 additional part-time staff member in Denver, CO, and thousands of volunteers in Colorado and around the country.
