Keystone Science School

A nonprofit organization

Purpose

We aim to teach scientific principles and leadership skills to young people, teachers, and community member through engaging hands-on field experiences. Keystone Science School was founded on the belief that leaders should approach decision making with a healthy respect for scientific inquiry, collaboration, and civic engagement.

We know that today's youth are our future leaders - the ones who will develop policies and make decisions that impact our world. With that in mind, we've created interactive science education programs that help students become familiar with scientific and critical thinking skills and encourage them to be engaged citizens.

Mission

With the outdoors as a backdrop for learning, Keystone Science School (KSS) inspires curiosity and critical thinking through the lens of science to change lives and strengthen communities.

Look to the Future

The Science School is focused on returning to a full slate of programming within the next two years. We are grateful to our community of donors and funders who have helped us to sustain our mission past the impacts of the pandemic.

Over the next few years Keystone Science School is focused on these three strategic priorities; Enrich, Elevate and Expand of our 2022-2024 strategic plan.

Enrich: We will invest in systems, facilities, and programs to sustain impact long into the future. We will refine our programming structure and curriculum while building long-term reserves and a donor Legacy program. We will begin planning for the remaining workforce housing on campus to improve retention and continue to attract the highest quality staff team.

Elevate: We are going to prioritize Keystone Science Schools commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion across all parts of our work. We plan to build and implement a multi-phased strategy to ensure Keystone Science School is a place of belonging for all participants, staff, and board members.

Expand: The next step is to bring programming to audiences beyond our 23-acre campus, engaging numerous communities across Colorado. We are investing in staff and board recruitment and training to strengthen our foundation and build capacity for the future.
