Testimonials

"KDNK is a community gem. Nowhere else will you hear live updates directly from the Mayor and Trustees each week, keeping people informed and engaged in local issues. We rely on KDNK to keep our community strong." - Ben Bohmfalk, Mayor of Carbondale.

"KDNK is fundamental to the identity of Carbondale and its surroundings; I truly can't imagine the town would be nearly as creative, well-acquainted and joyful without this community voice." - Raleigh Burleigh, Editor at Sopris Sun.

"KDNK is a critical hub for the community, allowing us all to share and receive important local news and an awesome variety of music." - Jamie Abbott, Carbondale Arts Executive Director.

"KDNK is there for us on bright, beautiful days with fresh tunes and joyful local Djs, so be there for KDNK. KDNK is there for us on tough days with in-depth local and international news and solid information during local emergencies, so be there for KDNK." - Bob Schultz, KDNK Volunteer DJ for 35 years.

"When I am feeling absolutely overwhelmed, at odds with, or honestly just disgusted by popular culture, politics, or world news, I often find myself tuning into KDNK just to remind myself that my community is connected, grounded, generous, creative, joy-filled, etc. That community culture is not only reflected through the airwaves on KDNK, but it’s also deeply nurtured at the station." - Deborah Colley, Mountain Fair Chief of Operations, local musician, KDNK DJ.

Mission

KDNK provides public access radio that connects community members to one another and the world.

KDNK’s public access mission means that the station strives to serve, reflect, and belong to you - our community

Background Statement

KDNK went on the air April 15, 1983 with a group of all-volunteer programmers, board members, and a small, dedicated audience. The transmitter was located on-site, and the coverage area was limited to mostly just downtown Carbondale.

40 years later, KDNK broadcasts from our welcoming studio at 76 S. 2nd Street in the heart of the Carbondale Creative District. Our signals reach over 100,000 people from Rifle to Leadville to Marble in addition to worldwide internet listeners.

Over 100 volunteer DJs and hosts of all stripes independently program the majority of our schedule. Dedicated and award-winning staff keep listeners informed of local and regional news, curate an extensive music library, and support the creation of excellent local programming.

KDNK's partner organization, the Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program, builds skills, passion, and self-confidence by creating a presence for our youth on air through six hours of weekly programming. Because of our close partnership with the Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment program, our listenership ranges in age to reflect our participants, from ages 8 to 98+ years old. KDNK is for all.
