Testimonials

"I wanted to send this letter to you in appreciation for your guidance and assistance last week with our son. Prior to my call I had no idea that your center even existed and much less was available to assist me with intervention and support even without my son being in "real" trouble with the law. I am sincerely grateful that you and the JAC were there for our family and do not know what we would have done without you that night as our anger had been elevated to an extreme level by the end of that week. His visit to your center was a memorable one for all of us. You were a wealth of knowledge about what Arapahoe County had to offer to me as a tax-payer and as a mom of a teenager. We are fortunate that we are not a family that has ever needed social services help, but I am so glad to know that if we ever do, you are there for us. How fortunate we also feel for the kids that are in need of real support that they have people like you to assist them." -Parent of young person served by the Juvenile Assessment Center

"The staff at the JAC has been a valuable resource for the Victim Assistance Program. We have used their program as a referral for many families that have nowhere to turn for help in dealing with their teens. They work diligently to find solutions for teens and their families who are in crisis. The services they provide are unique for our community and we are proud to have them as partners in addressing the problems of families and teens. The JAC clearly cares about the children and families in Douglas County and provides expert services and referrals to those families." -Patty Moschner, Victim Assistance Coordinator, Douglas County Sheriff's Office

Mission

It is the mission of the Juvenile Assessment Center to provide a coordinated, multi-agency, single entry site which contributes to the safety of youth, families, and the community through early intervention, comprehensive assessment and improved access to appropriate services.

JAC assessment professionals come alongside young people and families during challenging times; working together to gain a shared view of the situation. Our comprehensive assessment services identifies key concerns and provides clarity for a healthy pathway forward. Young people and families are connected with appropriate positive strategies and supportive services to address identified concerns.

All school-aged youth residing in or attending school within Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties are eligible for JAC's no cost early intervention assessment services.

Background Statement

The Juvenile Assessment Center is answering the call for early intervention services to prevent young people from penetrating the human services and juvenile justice systems.

The JAC was created to fill the gaps within the continuum of services available to young people who are at-risk of or engaging in delinquent behavior. Today, the organization provides services in Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties through the JAC's Law Enforcement Program, Community Assessment Program, as the designated screening team for the 18th Judicial District Senate Bill 94 Program, as a partner in Aurora's Gang Reduction Impact Program (A-GRIP), and in the collaborative known as Rural Intervention Specialized Case Management (RISC) services in Elbert and Lincoln counties.
