Back to school expenses are an increasing challenge financially for all families and especially single parent families. With budget shortfalls, many schools are requiring more supplies to be supplied by students. James Resource Network collects school supplies and gift cards at SheShe's Corner to attempt to fulfill as many requests as possible.
Each year, we have increasing participation of our partners and the community and so far have not had to turn away a request for help.
Little Gabbie, who received school supplies wrote to us " thank you everyone for school supplies" and her Mom said " ...sometimes I feel so all alone, then James Resource Network comes along and helps me with making things better for me and the kids. Thank you again!"
Group counseling opportunities for single parents that help to support their desire to overcome challenges personally and as parents. We have partnered with ongoing short to long-term classes in parenting and 12-step type curriculum.
Increased stability and self awareness, evidenced by healthy life choices and desire to go the distance with their families.
One of our clients, Donna L., completed two 12-week semesters last year in group counseling and she wrote the following testimonial "Hello,Ive been asked to share my experience of the group counseling program.I was asked to keep it short. This is difficult because there is so much to say. First ,I am a single parent.I feel I have many challenges.I also have some painful personal struggles (as we all do at some level).... Wherever you are at in your life, you need certain tools to clear the path. I may not like what I see,but I am more clear and prepared for the journey. I walked away feeling stronger! Through the life long friendships that were built, and the understanding of myself, I now have more to give and I am a better receiver! My gratitude belongs t,,, JRN's group counseling".
Periodic gatherings to provide assistance for single parents, but also opportunity for regular fellowship with others who understand their lives. These gatherings are facilitated through events such as Mother's Day pampering day, Christmas Tea, life skill classes, and clothing giveaway days.
Every year, the numbers increase of the single parents we are able to reach through gatherings such as the Mother's Day Pampering in May of 2012 where single moms received some much needed TLC and were truly transformed after receiving pampering which included haircuts/styling, manicures, chair massages, makeup makeover, delectable munchies, and the opportunity to shop in between appointment from the "Free" rack. And, to there were free makeup makeovers.
Some of those present gave feedback on this experience, so here is an excerpt of those testimonials. And many thanks to all of you who've taken the time to write!
"The Pampering Day at She She's was truly one of the most touching events I have experienced in recent memory! I felt very pampered by each of the service providers, and the staff/volunteers went out of their way to be helpful, friendly and welcoming. The food was wonderful, the sun was shining, there were no children with me, and I received one of the best haircuts I have EVER had!!! The only other time I have ever had my nails done was before my wedding in 1991, and I felt so girly that I went to several places to find the color of polish used on me before finally tracking it down at ULTA!! It is gracing my fingers AND my toes as I write this. I am so appreciative of everyone who was a part of making the day so special to me! " (Lisa B.)
"It went beyond my expectations. It was such a wonderful feeling to think that all that was for single moms. I can't explain how it made me feel. You could really feel the LOVE in the room and the volunteers who gave their time to put on such a wonderful, meaningful event. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart." (Linda P.)
"It was so amazing. I have no family, so it's just me and my kids. Sometimes I feel so alone and tired, and this day made me feel like I was part of a community who was in the same boat. I felt loved by people who didn't even know me. I am a single mom mostly because of the choices I have made, but there was no judgment, just love. Thank you so much. The day was so special. I can't find the words to describe to you how special you made me feel." (Kathy R.)

SheShe's Corner is an upscale resale clothing and home furnishings boutique owned by James Resource Network. This provides not only an opportunity to help engage our community in service to help single parent families, through volunteering and donating, but also allows us regular opportunities to increase the awareness of the needs of single parent families. Additionally, the sale of donated items provides a stream of revenue to help with James Resource Network's program services and a physical place to receive in-kind donations.
We have had numerous testimonials from both our customers and clients in regard to how SheShe's Corner was able to help to connect the needs of single parents, while also providing a valuable service to our community of upscale clothing and furnishings for pennies on the dollar.
