We strengthen "helping professionals" - nurses, EMTs, clergy, doctors, police, teachers, family caregivers, etc. - so they can become their best to give their best. The Institute for Life & Care is a community focused, nationally recognized educational organization. We provide programs and offerings to enable helping professionals to overcome compassion fatigue, build resilience and renew their passion for service to everyone in the community.

Testimonials

"The difference in your program versus others that I have attended is that the use of self is the primary vehicle for education, growth, and change. Other programs rely on "traditional" approaches to education which often includes less interaction within the group and structures the learning versus creating a learning environment that fosters creativity and expertise that each participant brings. "

"Self-care was a totally new concept. Not literally - I exercise, eat well, etc., but self-care spiritually and emotionally never occurred to me."
"I hope to integrate more time of rest - physical, emotional, spiritual, mental rest not gobbled up with planning and expectations but open to what may come…the "yellow-light" of life, the pauses that invite to join and rest. I have loved the calming peace of this time [together]."

"I enjoyed being able to meet in an atmosphere of acceptance. I was feeling burned out and each session encouraged me to keep going."

"The people I encountered in this program made an enriching difference in my life. They are my "take-away" from the program. Sharing with others restores my spirit."

"I realized I am not alone. Friendship is so helpful - gave me space to consider how to start to heal."

"I have the privilege of leading great men and women and want to be the most balanced person I can be so that when I am in that leadership role I serve them as they should be served. What is most important to me at this time is to be as well-balanced and productive . . . and present with those I care for and those around me. "

"This program is an invaluable gift."

"This program helped me to see the positive and creative solutions for situations in older life that people find daunting. It made me think about my life, my relationships and the future."

"I loved it. It was very good. The right time. Informative. I got a great deal out of it. What I discovered - there's way more good than bad. Life is overwhelmingly good; my loss is small compared to the good. The Retreat reframed this for me. This allows me to be more positive on a day that's grim. The forest is lovely despite the bad tree."

Background Statement

The Institute for Life & Care was established in July, 2007. Program development and staff selection took place over the next 12-14 months. In 2008, we began providing an initial array of programs and offerings to individuals and a few select organizations. From 2009 to the present, The Institute has grown dramatically with our programs and offerings and has just recently moved into "new to us" larger campus space in order to serve more clients and individuals. The Institute for Life & Care is a 501 (C) 3 nonprofit educational organization and is accredited by the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy and the American Association of Pastoral Counselors for our Clinical Pastoral Education program for Chaplains and Care Counselors.Visit us at www.lifeandcare.org.
