The Historical Society explores local history: early coal mining, railroads, homesteads, schools, and towns. Educational programs for local schools and senior citizens have been established. Guest speakers and bus tours are part of our special programs. We provide online info for genealogists.
The Historical Society of Oak Creek & Phippsburg / Tracks and Trails Museum is committed to collect, preserve, protect, interpret, impart and celebrate the history of the Oak Creek, Phippsburg, and Stagecoach areas: to strengthen the bond of our communities: and to develop and foster a greater understanding of and an appreciation for our cultural, economic, scientific, artistic, genealogical, and historical heritage.
Founded in a grass-roots effort to collect, preserve, and exhibit South Routt County documents, photos, research, and artifacts. The Historical Society of Oak Creek and Phippsburg has operated as an independent 501(c)(3) organization since 1998. Two grants from the CO State Historical Fund enabled the renovation of the "old" Oak Creek Town Hall, which has housed the Tracks and Trails Museum since 2007. In 2008 the museum was presented with the Stephen H. Hart Award for excellence in historical preservation.
