The HELP Inc Fund

A nonprofit organization

HELP (Health, Environment and Literacy Partnerships) creates strong partnerships for healthy futures in our world.

This year, we're linking over 500 young people from across the Rockies and Himalayas in explorations of their rich cultural heritage; seeing all they have in common, the challenges they face, and how their history and sharing can help them create healthier futures in a time of climate change.

Testimonials

"Our GCI Partnership with a school in Ladakh made growing food come to life for our kids."

As a premier Charter School in southwest Chicago, the Academy of Global Citizenship developed numerous learning units thanks to questions raised by Ladakhi students during skype chats. From "How do you keep your school warm in winter?" to "Where does your food come from?" kids were eager to satisfy the curiosity of their new friends half the world away.

"GCI helps all our teachers," Zonal Education Officer - Tangtse, Ladakh. "We won't admit [our] education system leaves children struggling. But in Winter Camps, no teacher feels less able; it's just friends helping each other build skills."

In a country with no experience putting the "authenticity" in K-12 learning and few funds for building teacher skills, GCI exchanges bridge a wide gap in the Western Himalayas of India. And equally important, our North American partners say they transform their PBL, Social Studies and Language Arts units into a creative way of building global citizens in today's youth.

Mission

Our vision is a world of healthy bodies, healthy communities and healthy futures.

Our mission is growing global partnerships that nurture community entrepreneurs and their dreams of a healthy future.

Background Statement

The HELP Fund was inspired by Cynthia Hunt, who for the past 28 years has lived and worked in the Western Himalayas but maintained a strong foothold in US and Canadian education programs. Founded in 2005, the Fund's original Board saw a vast opportunity to support global education in North American classrooms, to nurture basic community development in the Western Himalayas, and to create innovative ways to link the two goals.

Believing that rich, trusted and long-lasting relationships are a key to successful "development" and that those relationships also bring enthusiasm for learning and deep understanding of concepts into classrooms, the Fund strives to build partnerships serving our key areas of Health, Environment and Literacy Programs (the "HELP" in the Fund's name).

Eleven years of partnerships have resulted in award-winning programs in Asia, awards and recognition in Canada, and a big need to grow our organization in Colorado, where a wealth of experience is waiting to be tapped.
