Greenhouse Scholars

A nonprofit organization

Greenhouse Scholars leverages the power of education and community to close the opportunity gaps in underserved communities. We empower deserving and relentless students during and after college with multiple levels of support – professional, personal, and financial – to ensure they graduate prepared to serve as leaders, role models, and change agents.

This year, we’ve launched the most important evolution to our work since our founding: the Community Change Model, which includes our new Post-College Young Leaders Program and Sustaining Program. A natural progression of our Whole Person College Program, the Post-College Young Leaders Program and Sustaining Program are part of our efforts to support Greenhouse Scholars alumni post-graduation, to ensure they have the resources, council, and support they need to succeed as change-makers.

Mission

Greenhouse Scholars is a diverse community of leaders working together to ensure people of all backgrounds can live a life of their choosing.

Background Statement

Founded in Colorado in 2005, Greenhouse Scholars started following an analysis about college persistence rates and the power of education as the fundamental solution for a broad array of issues. A first of its kind, Greenhouse Scholars was one of the only organizations supporting students during college with services that went beyond scholarships alone; Greenhouse provided and continues to provide personal, professional, and financial resources to students from underserved backgrounds. The program demonstrated consistently strong results for individual students, so in 2013 the organization shifted to leverage the Scholars as leaders and role models who could positively impact whole communities.

The organization proved its mettle during COVID and came out of the past two years with even stronger program results and more constituents. Now, we are uniquely positioned to bring extraordinary leaders (Scholars, alumni, and supporters) together across socio-economic, political, racial, generational, and geographic divides, using those differences as strengths to solve critical issues. This is an inflection point for our organization as we launch our full Community Change Model and new Young Leaders Program.
