Testimonials

***The Community of Moffat County has had a void in drug prevention since the dissolution of COMA. The new, very energetic, Grand Futures staff has began to lay down the foundation to fill this void. As a former member of the All Crimes Enforcement Team, our local drug enforcement task force, I am well aware of the availablility of drugs to the youth of Moffat County. Enforcement actions alone will not help guide our youth to be productive, sober members of society. We need a strong prevention program in our community to do this. A program that goes beyond just telling kids to say "no," and provides sober, pro-social activates for kids. We as a community need to help develop and nurture the future leaders of or community. Grand Futures' role in helping with Teen Council, is not just providing the community with a prevention program, but also giving youth a "voice at the table." This is developing young leaders who are making an impact within their community. For these reason I believe the Grand Future Program is successful and needed.

***The Steamboat Springs School District partnership with Grand Futures has been hugely beneficial to our teachers, parents, and especially our students. Through their programs and grants we have been able to gauge crucial issues dealing with the choices our students make and develop resources for ongoing education of our students, teachers, and parents that help insure a better future for the students in our community.

-Martin Lamansky, Director of Teaching and Learning - Steamboat Springs School District - Routt County - CO

***The Teen Council is helping to bring light to the Grand Futures program with Kim at the helm. The community I think is starting to realize it has not tapped into an important resource for direction for the future with the upcoming generation coming into adulthood and soon to be our next generation of leaders. Youth/Community leadership programs will be a big factor in this new movement.

-Neil Folks, Moffat County - CO

***I have always wanted to have an impact on someone's life. Through my involvement in Teen Council I have been able to do so. Teen Council is a great way to extend my hand out to my peers and be an example and a leader to them. By providing activities for teens to participate in, we are helping lead others to a safer and healthier life. Teen Council is a way to get our voices as teens heard. I am able to talk to community members about what we as teenagers want in our community. The impact that Teen Council has had on our community and me is tremendous. Teen Council has given me an opportunity to do exactly what I want to do: make an impact on someone's life.

Mission

To prevent substance abuse amongst youth and young adults in Northwest Colorado.

Background Statement

Grand Futures Prevention Coalition spans the 14th Judicial District (9,000 sq miles) providing the only dedicated source of substance abuse prevention to the approximately 52,000 residents that make up 10 communities in 3 counties (Grand, Routt and Moffat). The Grand Futures Partnership was created in 1990 in Grand County as a division of the 14th Judicial District Attorney's office. The focus was (and is) to provide substance abuse prevention activities, education and training to youth and adults. In 1995, Grand Futures expanded to Moffat and Routt Counties to become Grand Futures Prevention Coalition. In 1997 it separated from the District Attorney's office and obtained 501 c 3 status. Each county office operates distinctly to best meet the needs of each county while achieving the coalition mission "to create and support healthy, positive lifestyle choices as alternatives to substance abuse for our youth and in our communities." Pillars of GFPC programs are: Changing Social Norms around alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD); Limiting Youth Access to ATOD; Educating Youth and Families.
