The Spencer Nelson Fund is in memory of Spencer Nelson who died in a tragic climbing accident on the Maroon Bells. Spencer was an elite athlete for the Competition Center and a Division 1 Alpine racer for the University of Colorado. Since it's inception, the Spencer Nelson Fund has raised over $250,000 for the Winter Park Ski Education Foundation which has been used to fund program fees and travel expenditures for youths who otherwise would not have been able to participate in the Winter Park Competition Center.
Over 50 athletes annually in the Winter Park Competition Center qualified and attended national and international competitions with the assistance of the Winter Park Ski Education Foundation.
