Mission

The mission of the Galloping Goose Historical Society (GGHS) is to foster knowledge and continued interest in the Rio Grande Southern Railroad’s importance to the historical development of southwestern Colorado. GGHS accomplishes its mission through education, outreach, museum exhibits and “living history” excursions on local narrow-gauge railroads using railcar RGS Goose No. 5.

Background Statement

The Galloping Goose Historical Society (GGHS) was established in 1987. It built a replica of the Dolores Colorado Rio Grande Southern Railroad train station to serve as a museum and office. In 1998, it completed the restoration of RGS Goose No.5, a historic narrow gauge railcar to running condition. The society has a railroad museum and operates RGS Goose No. 5 in Dolores during community events. It also transports RGS Goose No.5 to area narrow gauge railroads and operates full day excursions on the C&TS and D&SNG railroads.
