Girls Rock Denver

We empower girls* and gender-expansive youth through music education, creation, performance and community, working to put instruments in their hands to unveil what they already possess in their feet, fingertips, vocal cords, hearts and minds.

Each summer Girls Rock Denver puts on a 6-day music camp that serves girls and gender expansive youth ages 8-17. We provide instruments and professional instrument instructions by local musicians each day, before our rockers head into a self-esteem or community-building workshop sponsored or facilitated by a local organization or community groups. Throughout the week, our rockers form bands, write original songs, and then close the week performing their song, live on stage to their family, friends and the greater Denver community. In addition to the instruments we provide, we serve up nutritious snacks, lunch and open and close each day with an energizing and affirming assembly to ensure we have the energy to rock out!

In 2019, Girls Rock Denver was able to provide financial assistance to 43% of our participating families. Nearly 1/3 of our families participates in the free or reduced lunch programs at their schools. Just as we believe that gender does not dictate potential, financial situations should not stifle or bar participation in our program. Your gift will help us continue to provide this unique summer day-camp opportunity to our 2020 participants.

That "rock" is a verb rather than a genre and we support all types of musical interests.

*Girl is a complicated term and can mean many things. "Girl" doesn't automatically include all aspects of the gender spectrum and that is welcome within our organization. We acknowledge that we do not live in a post-gender world, and maintain the value in creating safe spaces of expression and growth for girls, trans and gender-expansive individuals.
