Testimonials

The Friends of the Loveland Library provide critical funding for programs, services, materials and special projects that inform, enrich and inspire a strong, engaged community. Contributions to the Friends make a beloved and important cultural institution even better.
-- Diane Lapierre, Loveland Public Library Director

The Friends of the Library (FOLPL) started small when the library moved to the Civic Center in 1987. Over the years it has grown to be the most amazing support organization! In 2003 it received 501c3 not-for-profit status as the Friends of the Loveland Public Library Foundation, Inc. The semi-annual book sales and other fundraising events have provided the library, a department of the City of Loveland, with all sorts of new and expanded services, equipment and supplies. I am most proud of the Capital Campaign initiated by the FOLPL in 2008 that kickstarted the major renovation and expansion of the library that was completed in 2012. The success of the $2 million campaign during the recession is a testament to the dedication to quality library and literacy services of the members.
-- Marcia Lewis, Former Director, Loveland Public Library

The Friends act as a partner with Food Bank for Larimer County to purchase hundreds of snacks each month for teens, many of whom face food insecurity at home. With funding from Friends, Loveland Library provides outreach to those most in need, including teens in court-ordered residential care at Platte Valley Youth Services Center who were able to meet an author this summer and get their own copy of a signed book. For many of these teens, this is the first book they've ever owned and the experience of having caring adults encourage them in their lives is priceless.
--Amber Holmes, Teen Services Manager, Loveland Public Library

I want to be an honorary Lovelander: I'm so impressed by the way you all create community and make things happen.
--Presenter at Poetry Workshop co-sponsored by the Friends

Mission

To support and advocate for the Loveland Public Library and its mission "to inform, enrich and inspire a strong, engaged community". The Friends generate current and long-term funding through volunteer involvement.

Background Statement

Since our formation in 1988, the Friends of the Loveland Public Library has focused our all-volunteer power on fundraising and advocacy. We fund and sponsor programs that engage people of all ages with the array of resources and technology available at our Library, to help our growing community - especially children, teens and families - increase their literacy skills. We achieve that mission primarily through sales of donated books, attracting thousands of customers and generating more than half our annual revenue.

Loveland Loves to Read is our annual One Book, One Community program. Each year, community members come together through the reading and discussion of a common book.
