Testimonials

"Foundation Music School has been the cornerstone of my childrens' music education since birth. My first son has attended classes there since he was six weeks old, and my second son started at three months. We love how Foundation Music School's programs are structured to grow with our children, and they are designed to nurture their natural rhythm and desire to make music and dance. Now that both of my children are older, they attend classes without me and have begun learning instruments. It is wonderful to watch them slide into music with such ease, and I believe that is due in large part to the constant presence of music in their lives, thanks to Foundation Music School. I would highly recommend any of the classes to any parent looking to immerse their child in a fun, loving musical environment for a very reasonable price."

"My children have been attending Foundation music school for over 3 years now. They love it!
They have learned by watching not only the teacher but the other children as well. They feel free to dance and express themselves musically however it comes out, and I appreciate that there is such a level of comfort there for them to be able to do that. They come home singing the songs and using our home instruments in a similar way to how they experienced them in class. I love how class works on their coordination, memory, creativity, and even their social skills. My middle child really loves the music camps as well. An extra bonus is that all the staff and teachers are so wonderful to be around, each exhibiting an individual style to contribute to the atmosphere. I feel truly grateful for the experiences that my girls have there."

"Music therapy at Foundation Music School has been incredible for our child! We have seen more progress in our child's speech, voice support and breathing techniques here that at any other place we have gone. The teachers are engaging, enthusiastic, passionate, genuine, and talented. Foundation Music School has changed our lives. Thank you."

"The Foundation Music School has been an amazing opportunity for my twin boys. This past summer was our first structured class and a huge step for both myself and my boys. We thoroughly enjoyed our music class each week and my boys would often sing the songs they learned in between class time. I'm so thankful that my boys were exposed to music class at the early age of two. I'm confident they will continue to love and appreciate music because of this positive introduction to music class. Thank you to the entire staff, I admire your dedication and passion."

Background Statement

Foundation Music School was founded in 2006 by Kelly McCallum. Kelly began teaching family music classes with a handful of families, a passion for music and a dream of creating a school of the arts that could serve the community of Fort Collins. With her vision and dedication, Foundation Music School has steadily grown into what it is today, now offering a variety of classes for anyone interested, regardless of age, ethnicity, income or ability.

Family Music classes bring the world of music to children from birth to 5 years old and their parents or caregivers through bouncing, instrument playing, lullabies, dancing, parachute play, movement, finger plays and more. Music Makers Pre-instrument and Instrument classes include singing, dancing, instrument and ensemble playing and movement to provide children with the musical tools necessary to be successful at playing an instrument. Our beginning Group Instrument programs utilize the benefits of small group classes to provide students with a total musicianship approach to their instrument that is fun and motivating. Through a group approach, children are able to learn from each other and overcome performance anxiety.

Graduates of the beginning instrument programs are equipped with skills often reserved for more advanced students and are ready for the focus and intensity of private instrument lessons. In private instrument lessons, students study with teachers with advanced degrees and are given the opportunity to work in ensembles throughout the year, perform in community recitals and participate in a week long summer music camp that is both fun and inspiring. Private lessons are student-centered, ensuring that material is relevant and motivating.

For our students with diverse needs, Foundation Music School offers Adaptive Lessons, Group Music Therapy Services and Private Music Therapy Services facilitated by Board Certified Music Therapists with years of experience and training. Music Therapy utilizes music to work on non-musical goals and objectives in the areas of speech and language skills, socio-emotional skills, motor skills, academic/cognitive skills, and sensory regulation. Board Certified Music Therapists plan and implement musical experiences which help clients in the areas of development, learning or rehabilitation. Music Therapists utilize the different elements of music to activate the brain and influence behavior.

In addition to the classes offered in-house, Foundation Music School provides outreach into our community through Wings, Early Childhood Music program in PSD, and the Teen Mom and Baby Program. Each week, Foundation Music School provides services to over 1,000 people in our community.
