Testimonials

From DLC current parent...."Thank you all for making Discovery such an amazing place for our kids! Our son absolutely loves being there and comes home every day with such great stories about what he has learned and how much fun he had (and of course who the Letter Person was!). It makes all the difference in the world knowing that you leave your kids with such caring people who are genuinely interested in their growth, well-being and happiness as you go into work each day. Thank you for peace of mind, friendship and encouragement you provide to all of your parents.."
From DLC alumni parent..."We cannot thank you enough for the past few years! We've known all along we were in good hands….but when it came to this summer, we felt like we were family. You all made a really stressful time feel like we had a safe place to go. Your hugs, patience & reassurance touched my heart in the most amazing way. You all have a special gift working with children & we have been blessed by it in the most fortunate way. Thank you for your teaching, your patience, your laughter & your love. You are all wonderful!!"
From NN alumni mom..."The Newborn Network has been a great source for me as a first time mom for questions and support with raising infant twins. It is great to have something so readily available to me and my family in a small community that will come to me, in my home, if need be, or just a phone call away for my concerns"
From NN alumni dad..."It's (PAT) been a great resource for our new family, and helped us learn about developmental goals and our child's needs"
From a new child care provider..."Child Care Network supported me through the process of getting licensed by the state of Colorado to do Family Child Care in my home. They helped me every step of the way."
From a parent..."Thank you (CCN) so much for helping me find child care for my 18 month old. I would not be able to keep my job without your help."

Mission

The goal of the Family Development Center is to provide parents with the education and supports they need to be the best parents they can be.

Discovery Learning Center's mission is to provide quality early childhood care and education in a supportive environment; that support extends to the children, the families and their community. The goal of everyone working with the children is to help each child have more positive feelings about him/herself, which includes confidence in the ability to learn, increasing self-control, positive social relationships and exploring new experiences, with the result of growing confident, competent, caring children.

Child Care Network's mission is to provide services and programs that make child care work for families and communities. Quality, availability, and affordability of child care are the three essential elements of a responsive and growing child care system.

Newborn Network's mission is to provide services and programs that support parents in the first years of their child's life. The two main goals are to enhance parent-to-parent networking and to assist parents in enhancing their child's development.

Background Statement

Discovery Center was established in 1978, as a laboratory setting for Colorado Northwestern Community College, and later Colorado Mountain College's Early Childhood Education Certificate and Associate Degree Program. The school was housed in a vacant parsonage in Old Town. In 1984, CMC decided to terminate that program. Parents of Discovery Center children then formed a non-profit corporation - Steamboat Springs Discovery Learning Center. Discovery first achieved and has maintained NAEYC Accreditation since 1990.

The Child Care Network was formed within this agency in 1992. In 1994, the Network also began to provide services to Grand and Jackson Counties, in 1995 to Moffat County, in 1996 to Rio Blanco County, and in 2017 we were able to focus again on our home county, Routt. In the fall of 1993, the DLC Board of Directors decided to move this organization towards a Family Development Center concept. And in 1994, the Newborn Network was added as a home visitation program, then transformed into a family support program partnering with Bright Beginnings. In 2005 we were able to add Parents as Teachers to our programming. In 2017, we added Play & Learn, a parent-child twice weekly year round program.
