🌿 Elderhaus: A Place for Purpose, Pride, and Belonging

At Elderhaus, we believe every adult deserves connection, purpose, and joy — no matter age or ability. Since 1980, we’ve provided day programs for adults with dementia and intellectual disabilities, helping them live meaningful lives in our community.

Elderhaus is Northern Colorado’s only adult day program offering specialized, compassionate care that supports both participants and their families. Through social engagement, recreation, and purposeful work, we empower adults to stay active, safe, and valued — while giving caregivers the respite they need.

💚 Your Gift Makes an Immediate Difference

When you give to Elderhaus, you:

  • Provide safe, structured days filled with laughter, movement, and purpose.

  • Support our Able Hands Workshop, where adults with dementia build, create, and give back through simple work projects.

  • Help families stay together longer by easing the challenges of full-time caregiving.

  • Fund transportation, meals, and enrichment activities that keep participants connected and engaged.

Every dollar you give stays right here in our community — supporting local families who depend on Elderhaus every day.

Testimonials

"I don't know what I would do without Elderhaus helping my parents; my mother is more relaxed knowing dad is safe and well cared for during the day, which means I am able to work all day without panic phone calls or worrying when there are no phone calls! Thank you!"

"Elderhaus has been a path of contentment for my spouse. He is warmly welcomed each day by staff. AS I know he is safe and engaged with many people doing a wide variety of activities, I have peace of mind and can take care of things that life requires. The program and activities keep expanding for all participants. We are grateful for Elderhaus and the dedicated staff who support us so well with care and compassion every day."

"Elderhaus provides a lot of transportation and assistance for my daughter plus lots of communications support. They make sure she is hygienic and eating the right nutrients. She’s been here for 11 years and loves it! The program provides a lot of love, support, and outings like swimming and going to the park. I’m so pleased and happy and so thankful for the program."

"Elderhaus has been nothing but a blessing. My daughter absolutely loves going there. She loves the bus rides to the outings and she’s always exhausted when she gets home. It’s a wonderful place for our family."

"Elderhaus provides a friendly and safe environment I trust. - where my son can make friends and socialize with peers. As an only child at home, he wouldn’t get those opportunities. Elderhaus expands his world in a safe way."

"My partner loves coming here. She loves being with the ladies and her girl time. She loves it in general and looks forward to it every day. It allows me some respite care to get things done around the house. For both of us, it enhances our lives in ways I can’t describe. We love the place - both of us."

"Elderhaus provides a dual purpose: a great getaway for my daughter with activities and provides respite care for me so I can get things done while she is in a safe space."

"I am just thrilled with the services at Elderhaus.  My spouse tells me how nice the staff are here. He is getting the stimulation and socialization he needs. I can see an improvement in his mood and physical abilities.  I wouldn't change a thing!  We are 100% satisfied with the services we receive at Elderhaus."

Mission

The mission of Elderhaus Adult Day Program is to provide daytime care for adults living with dementia or other disabilities and respite for their caregivers.

Background Statement

Elderhaus Adult Day Program started in October of 1980 when two volunteers welcomed two participants whose caregivers very much needed a little time to attend to their own well-being. The goal was to safely engage and supervise older adults living with dementia or other needs by providing compassionate daytime care that would empower families to continue living together at home as long as possible.

Elderhaus has expanded into a program that provides weekday care (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) for adults (age 18 and over) living with a range of needs. Elderhaus is the only nonprofit organization in Larimer or Weld County that specializes in providing daytime care for adults living with dementia – including Alzheimer's, Lewy-Body dementia, frontotemporal degeneration, and alcohol-related dementia, as well as a range of age-related needs.

Major Historical Highlights:

• In 2005, Elderhaus started our Mindset program, which serves adults living with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, autism, schizophrenia, brain injuries, and more.

• In 2009, Elderhaus formally became a Program Approved Service Agency (PASA) with Larimer County's Center Board for Disabilities, Foothills Gateway, Inc.

• In 2011, the Veteran's Administration in Cheyenne asked Elderhaus to become a pilot day program to serve Veterans, making Elderhaus the first daytime program approved to serve Veterans in this area.

• Also in 2011, Elderhaus was approved as a specialized unit through the State of Colorado. As a Medicaid Specialized Care Provider, we can serve clients with a higher level of need, and are required to have a Certified Nurse's Assistant (CNA) on staff during all business hours.

• In 2016, Elderhaus moved into our beautiful current location, after spending two years preparing the facility to best meet the needs of the persons entrusted to our care each weekday. Our south Fort Collins locations makes us easily accessible for clients and families throughout northern Colorado. Elderhaus/Mindset appreciates our partnership with the Larimer County Office on Aging and the Weld County Area Agency on Aging, the municipalities of Fort Collins and Loveland, and many other agencies and entities in Colorado.
