Description

EPIC supports the programs of our partners FUNDAMARCOS. The FUNDAMARCOS Agricultural Program begins work with farm families by focusing on increasing yields of the basic food crops, which in Guatemala are corn and beans. By implementing extremely effective new practices of water management, soil conservation and resilient sustainable agriculture, program participants usually double their corn and beans harvests in the first year.

The FUNDAMARCOS Program exemplifies a unique coordination of efforts between its work in nutrition and health and its agriculture program. FUNDAMARCOS calls this Agrosalud. FUNDAMARCOS fights persistent malnutrition by teaching poor indigenous families in rural Guatemala to produce abundant nutritious food.

Description

EPIC supports the work of our partner, La Semilla del Progreso, a Honduran organization based in Siguatepeque, Honduras, directed by Laureano Jacobo. They provide intensive training for farmers from surrounding communities and continues to support them in the sometimes delicate transition from conventional practices to regenerative organic agriculture. The training is designed to give farmers the tools to increase yields and make farming a real option for being able to adequately feed a family and make a living. Participants who receive training at La Semilla are given a lot of encouragement, but they are most convinced when they see increases in their own crop yields, plus experiencing the other tangible benefits of applying these new practices on their own farms.
