Durango Baseball & Softball

A nonprofit organization

  • Durango Baseball & Softball (DBS) is the only entity offering baseball opportunities for children in Durango and the only entity offering softball opportunities for girls and young women in all of La Plata County.
  • Donations make up nearly 40% of DBS' annual budget. Donations support scholarships, coed tee ball registration fees for our youngest players and any facility/equipment improvement.
  • DBS serves children and young people between the ages of 4-18. 700 children participated in DBS programs in 2023.
  • There is no program through Durango Parks & Recreation and DBS is not subsidized by the city of Durango. DBS is the only baseball/softball organization in SW Colorado that has to pay to use municipal fields.
  • DBS offers scholarships to those who apply and demonstrate need. In the fall 2023 season, 11% of participants received a scholarship.
  • DBS registration prices are as low as possible, given the overhead of managing fields at 5 different locations and maintaining our own facility at Alpine Bank Sports Complex.
  • DBS offers both recreational and competitive baseball and softball opportunities for our members, during spring/summer and fall seasons.
  • In 2023, DBS organized and ran a league for 27 baseball teams from the communities of Bayfield, Dolores, Ignacio, Mancos and Pagosa Springs. Those teams travel to Durango to play and use our facilities every week from April through June and again from August through October.

HELP US IMPROVE OUR FACILITIES!

Each week during the spring and fall season, Durango batting cages and baseball/softball fields see over 1000 uses. The surface of several cages is rocky and uneven, tears up baseballs/softballs and turns to mud at the first raindrop. We can improve the surfaces of these cages, as well as improve field surfaces and equipment. This would allow all DBS players access to better training facilities, the most equitable way to raise the level of baseball and softball in our community. Today's donation will help us improve Durango batting cages and fields before the 2024 season!

Mission

Durango Baseball & Softball (DBS) serves to instill in children and families the values of sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty and courage so that they may grow to be healthy and trustworthy citizens and to inspire a love of baseball and softball in our community and high school programs.

Background Statement

Durango Baseball & Softball (DBS) has been sponsoring amateur youth softball and baseball leagues for Durango and La Plata County boys and girls for nearly 20 years. DBS is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization with 501(c)3 status.

DBS became affiliated with Little League in 2012. In 2013, Durango became our own Little League District (#4) with Cortez, Bayfield, Ignacio and Pagosa Springs.

In 2017, the president believed there was a need for a fall baseball season in Durango, with the board's approval to move forward. The president organized and executed the season and Durango held its first successful fall ball with over 100 participants in its inaugural year.

In 2019, DBS added Durango Danger Softball to the program to provide additional support to Durango softball families. In 2020, DBS became an independent baseball and softball league.
