Testimonials

Drive Smart of the Rockies' success can be measured by its growth since 1993 and the noticeable reduction in car crashes and fatalities in the areas we serve. Beginning with its first major program at one high school in April 1994, we have grown to serve all generations of road users throughout the State.
~Parent and teen seminars to understand the process and laws to getting a drivers' license in Colorado
~Impact Teen Drivers presentations in over 18 high schools, and local colleges
~Alive at 25 programs in high schools
~Planning My Driving Retirement seminars for older drivers to understand mobility options and our health
~CarFit(r) events for older drivers to get the right fit within their personal vehicle
~Health and Safety Fairs, Group presentations, school assemblies, and more

As a result of growing our reach and serving larger and increasingly at risk groups of drivers and riders Drive Smart of the Rockies is faced with a broader need for underwriting support. We need your help to continue our positive influence within our communities as we work to bring cultural and behavioral change around the topic of car crashes.

Testimonies:

DRIVE SMART Driver Education Scholarship winner
Cassandra C.
"The behind the wheel driving instruction really gave me a better experience with my driving, driving with the instructors really gave me a way to improve and become a better driver. Thanks to the driving instructor I learned at lot that most students wouldn't learn if they went to the DMV."

Student feedback following an in school presentation of What Do You Consider Lethal?:
"I've pledged that I will never text or call on my phone while driving. Period. No text is so important that I am willing to risk my life, as well as the lives of others, just to read and answer."

Evergreen High graduate, S.W., beginning freshman year at college:
"I just wanted to tell you that being at college with all these different people gives me perspective on how I grew up, and how privileged I was. People here talk about how in their towns, it was the norm to drink and drive, and that in their high school someone would die every couple months due to reckless driving. I just wanted you to know this, because I did not feel that this was normal at all in Evergreen. This was the opposite of them! We were taught that drinking and driving is so wrong, by DRIVE SMART. Throughout high school I do not know one person at my school who was killed due to driving. People out here think that is so weird, but I wanted you to know that you guys as an organization are doing a great job! Thank you!"

Participants in GDL Seminars:
Parent Participants:
'Great information for myself and my child' and 'Lots of great info, thank you!'
Teen Participants:
'A lot of the things discussed were items I had questions about' and 'Information was easy to understand.'

From Betty a participant in CarFit event coordinated by DRIVE SMART
"I wanted to let you and others know what an important service you are providing for senior drivers. My husband and I are both in our 70s and participated in this program. We were very impressed about all of the things that you checked. Because we have a car that allows us to save our settings individually for each of us, we now know that our mirrors, our seats, etc. are set correctly for safe driving. What an important service you are providing by offering this to seniors."
Thank you very much.

Mission

Drive Smart of the Rockies is a non-profit dedicated to preventing transportation related crashes, injuries and fatalities. We achieve this through educating all generations of drivers, riders and passengers; changing attitudes, behaviors and practices leading to effecting cultural change and creating safer roads and saved lives throughout our Colorado communities.

Background Statement

In April, 1993, two teens were driving between friends' houses after school, enjoying a perfect spring day in the mountains.Until they crashed. One teen died as a result of the crash, and the lives of two families and countless others changed forever. For years similar scenarios had become an annual tragic event in the Evergreen area. But this time it was different. This time a group of concerned citizens came together to say "enough is enough!"

The "Teen Driving Safety Task Force" was created as a grassroots effort with the initial goal to learn why there were so many crashes and fatalities in the mountain community, and ultimately what could be done to stop them. Within the year, a Community Safety Profile uncovered the sad fact that transportation safety and driving problems in our community were just a part of a much larger issue, and not limited to teen drivers or to the area. The task force connected with a group called DRIVE SMART Colorado Springs and an umbrella group called DRIVE SMART COLORADO.

DRIVE SMART Evergreen-Conifer, Inc. was officially incorporated in January 1995, and recently changed our name to Drive Smart of the Rockies to better represent the areas throughout Colorado which we serve.
