Kids enter the foster care system every day in Colorado. The problem: there are more kids than there are foster families. Kids are waiting on adults. And about 50% of foster parents quit within the 1st year often because of a lack of support. Together we can change that! Colorado Kids Belong exists to change the experience and outcomes for these kids.

Testimonials

"Thank you, Colorado Kids Belong, for bringing our family together! Our girls captured our hearts from the moment we saw their picture. We are so thankful to now call them our daughters. Colorado Kids Belong not only assisted in connecting us with the caseworker but also supported us during and after the adoption process." Kristy, adoptive mom

"We appreciate your partnership and value everything you are doing for children and youth in foster care!" - Realities for Children, Fort Collins

"We are honored to partner with you." Kari Stewart, Timberline Church

"The Foster Friendly app and the way that our church wraps around us as a foster family have made us feel like we can foster longer" Abby, Colorado Foster Mom

"Colorado Kids Belong has proven itself to be an effective organization championing support services for foster parents while building an educated and equipped community support system to enhance the experience of children in foster care" Lori Saine, Weld County Commissioner

Mission

Colorado Kids Belong is working to dramatically improve the experiences and outcomes of kids in foster care so they can thrive in safe and loving families, supported by Foster Friendly communities, where they belong.

Background Statement

Colorado Kids Belong began when Adopt Colorado Kids was established in 2013 by Founder, Julie Mavis, to address the foster care crisis in Colorado. Through strategic partnerships with the State and other organizations, Adopt Colorado Kids helped hundreds of waiting children and youth find forever homes.

In 2015, Adopt Colorado Kids helped launch America's Kids Belong to begin tackling the foster care crisis in other states. In 2019, Colorado launched as a state chapter of America's Kids Belong and continues to be laser-focused on Colorado's children and youth who are impacted by foster care and the need for belonging. America's Kids Belong is now working in 10 states across the country.

In 2022 the Foster Friendly Program was launched here in Colorado and is taking off. This program helps to retain foster and kinship families by engaging the community to support them using the mobile app as a collaborative platform. We are so excited to recruit more awesome foster parents and continue to do more localized Foster Friendly initiatives in 2024.
