Colorado Field Ornithologists

Colorado has an impressive variety of habitats, from high alpine tundra to riparian corridors and tall- and short-grass prairies that in turn support over 200 breeding bird species and provides critical stop-over sanctuary for hundreds more migrating species. CFO works to protect Colorado's birds.

Mission Statement

Colorado Field Ornithologists is a nonprofit organization devoted to the study, conservation and enjoyment of Colorado's birds.

Organization History

CFO is the state's premier organization devoted to the study, conservation and enjoyment of Colorado's birds. We provide important resources that serve Colorado's birding community as well as visitors from out of state and provides the following benefits:

Colorado Birds, our flagship quarterly journal
Colorado Bird Records Committee (CBRC)
CFO Annual Convention
CFO Projects, grants and scholarships
CFO conservation efforts
CFO membership services
Colorado Birding Challenge (COBC)
COBirds listserv and the CFO Facebook Group

We are funded through annual memberships, convention revenue, special events and generous gifts from people like you. Your contribution supports the production of Colorado Birds, funds grants for special projects and field research, provides scholarships and enables important conservation projects. Thank you for your support!

"The CFO Convention is the birding highlight of my year! Thank you to CFO for hosting these wonderful events. Each year I look forward to reconnecting with old friends and meeting new people as we explore a different part of this beautiful state. I can't wait for the Pueblo convention next year!"

"Thank you CFO for contributing funding for my work with Flammulated Owls. The GPS units are yielding important data about migratory timing for this elusive species."

Thank you Nick, Peter, Greg, Irene and the rest of the CFO team for your work on the COBC. Your coordination and communication was key to the success. We are truly honored by your support and investment. It was a big day and an inspiration to be out there counting for Colorado."
