Colorado Dance Theatre, Inc.

A nonprofit organization

Colorado Dance Theatre has produced Tchaikovsky's much loved ballet, "The Nutcracker" for over 20 years. We are one of the few professional dance productions for Northern Colorado dancers as well as an educational organization that annually donates tickets to local school children and other organizations so that they may experience a live theatrical performance. We would like to invite you to help keep this wonderful production a part of the Greeley and Northern Colorado community.

Testimonials

The Nutcracker is one of my favorite holiday traditions. I like being in The Nutcracker because you get to meet new friends and every time you perform, you rule the stage.
- TH, age 17, 9 years with The Nutcracker

My students have enjoyed attending The Nutcracker performances and are in awe of the experience. I am so grateful for the generosity of the sponsors for providing this opportunity for them!
- KP, Teacher, Chappelow Elementary School

I've been involved in many Nutcracker productions, and CDT's is the most professional production I've done. It's on par with any production in the region and is now the only "Nut" I will do.
- RD, 10 years with The Nutcracker

Mission

Colorado Dance Theatre is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the development of children and provide professional quality dance experience for people of all ages in Northern Colorado. We accomplish this by providing performance opportunities and educational outreach to our community.

Background Statement

In 1993, a small group of dancers from the University of Northern Colorado and an ambitious dance professor created UNC Dance Theatre. They put together a number of formal and informal performances. Their first major production was 19 years ago when they performed Carmina Burana with the Greeley Children's Chorale.

In December 1994, UNC Dance Theatre introduced the very first Nutcracker performance to the Greeley community, again in collaboration with the Greeley Children's Chorale. There were 25 dancers, ages 5 to 34, in this first production of The Nutcracker.

Then in June 1995 this same group of dancers created Colorado Dance Theatre, which brought to our community performances such as Carmina Burana, Peter and the Wolf, Les Syllphide, Paquita, Pas de Quatre, Sleeping Beauty, Miranda's Nightmare and The Nutcracker.

Colorado Dance Theatre's production of The Nutcracker has continued to grow over the years. The 2015 cast had over 120 dancers, ages 6 to 50+. Our cast members represent many of the local dance studios and educational institutions in Greeley and the surrounding area.

Through the years, Greeley has nurtured a strong dance community of both performers and spectators. Colorado Dance Theatre is proud to be a large part of this.
