Mission Statement

The mission of Actor's Company and Theater School (Colorado ACTS) is to bring quality children's drama education to the local community.

Organization History

Since 1997, Actors Company and Theater School (Colorado ACTS) has provided exceptional theater classes for children ages four to eighteen throughout the Denver Metro-area. The school is dedicated to empowering children and youth to develop communication skills to the full extent of their talents and abilities. It was formed with the following purposes.

1. To teach students that their talents are a gift from God that should be developed and given back to Him in an improved form.

2. To offer an alternative to students and their parents who found the public school theater experience unacceptable for various reasons.

3. To offer an alternative for the huge time constraints that are put on students. Usually a high school drama production meets two to five hours a night, five days a week for six to ten weeks. This means that a young person can't participate in any other extracurricular activity. Colorado ACTS classes are designed so that students can also play a sport or be in another club or activity.

4. To offer homeschooled students the same theater experience that a student would normally get at a traditional school. Theater is an activity that requires a group of people, and many home school students don't have a group that could/would offer a theater experience. Approximately 60% of the students are home schooled.

Colorado ACTS also serves a unique group not always welcomed in traditional theater - children and teens considered "differently abled" - those with physical or mental disabilities. One of the Colorado ACTS teachers specializes in this population and teaches them with excellence, boosting self-confidence and improving interpersonal and communication skills.

Since inception, Colorado ACTS has produced more than 200 shows. The organization is proud of the quality of theater education that the students receive and the quality of the entertainment the audiences enjoy. Colorado ACTS educates youth in many areas, including interpersonal communication, discipline, memorization, teamwork, social skills, public speaking, reading and language skills.

"Our family participated in a Friday morning home school group, which produced plays directed by Cindy Oury and Ebie Panozzo. All three of our kids are fairly quiet and shy, and none of them had previous drama experience. Their time proved to be an opportunity which helped them in their communication skills, as well as in their ability to answer the questions "Where do I fit in to the big picture? What is my part to play?" Literally and figuratively! We are grateful for what they have learned through their experience. We plan on returning for another year, even though the drive is long for us. It is definitely worth the time and financial commitment."

"You are amazing. What an excellent production! I so enjoyed the play last night, was once again shocked at the quality of what can be pulled together in two months! Mostly I am extremely thankful that our child has a safe place to spend time building confidence. Our child struggles with language and learning and a lot of other social type things. This is such an amazing way for our child to be around great, accepting people and be able to work toward an end result in something that is fun and rewarding. My husband and I are eternally grateful. Thank you for your hard work!!!"

"Colorado ACTS has boosted the social confidence of all of my children, as well as providing a safe, healthy place to explore their creativity, and communication skills. All three of my teens are now competent communicators and comfortable speaking in front of groups of peers as well as adults. Thank you CO ACTS!"

"Kudos to director, cast and crew for an outstanding production of Once Upon a Leprachaun. My wife, mother-in-law and myself attended the final performance this past Saturday night. The acting was spot on, singing beautiful and the choreography wonderfully energetic. Thanks again, for a for a delightful evening!"

"My child has grown in all areas and we feel fortunate to have Colorado ACTS in our lives. It allows for students to develop skills, strengthen talents and develop new ones. It is affordable and from the communities perspective produces shows that are quality and affordable for families. Thanks!"
