Serving ten Colorado counties in the Denver metropolitan area, it has identified a long term vision of "health-conscious and educated communities served by a diverse and competent healthcare workforce." One of six community-based centers in the Colorado AHEC System, CCAHEC has touches more than 30,000 students, community members, counselors, teachers and providers as it trains health professionals committed to under-served populations.

Testimonials

Arianna Sherman served with the South Western and Western Colorado AHECs. Her efforts were focused on the communities in Mesa, Delta, Montrose, San Miguel, and Ouray counties. She was part of the Community Opioid Response Program from October 2017 till July 2018. Committing to a year of service can be empowering, and for Arianna it was that and more. During Arianna's year of service, she trained 120 providers, 15 community members in safe storage and disposal and 250 youth! She worked with 15 local councils, committees and workgroups to spread awareness and educate local communities about the opioid epidemic. Her advice to members serving now is "Your experience in AmeriCorps is decided by you. You can decide to be part of the conversation or you can be a person who is not engaged."

Andres, a Hispanic student from rural Colorado, won a CCAHEC-administered Health Profession scholarship. He first learned of the opportunity when he volunteered at the Colorado AHEC Program health screenings at the National Western Stock Show. He says, "To me this scholarship is a godsend and has allowed me to pursue my dream of making a difference in the lives of individuals. My three siblings in college have put substantial financial burden on my parents and therefore my gratitude to AHEC is nearly inexpressible."
