Mission Statement

The mission of the Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts is to inspire and connect community members of all ages by providing access to the best of the world's music through education and performance.

Organization History

Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts combines the musical excellence and community service traditions of two pillars of Boulder County's arts community. Colorado Music Festival was established in 1976 to present a summer season of orchestral concerts, performed at the historic Chautauqua Auditorium. Repertoire brings together a diversity of musical styles and traditions including beloved classics, new works, award-winning guest artists, a chamber series, and a range of family and youth concerts. Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts was established in 1995 to provide private and group instruction on musical instruments ranging from piccolo to electric guitar, along with performing ensembles such as Ukulele Social Club for elementary students, and Jazz Improvisation for Senior Citizens. In 2009 Colorado Music Festival and Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts merged to establish one nonprofit agency, Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts (CMF & CMA), with two mutually supportive program areas: producing an artistically excellent festival of orchestral music, and managing a community music school that provides music education for all ages, abilities, ethnicities and financial means. Altogether, CMF & CMA served more than 20,000 last year through concert performances, music education and community outreach programs.

Audience comments:
"Thank you CMF! My son, 10-year-old granddaughter, and I experienced a miracle with last night's performance of Gorecki's Symphony. The concert was a cosmic wonder from beginning to end."

"I was moved to tears by the beauty I experienced tonight. It is something I will never forget."

Student comments:
"(Music) is a fun way to go places and meet people while learning new things. I also have learned to apply things I have learned as a musician to other part of my life such as attention to small details and the ability to perform under pressure." Stephen, 9th grade

"I'm inspired when I listen to or write music. When I have a problem I need to fix, I write a song first, to get my feelings on paper. I've never met anyone who doesn't appreciate what music does for the world." - Zoe, 9th grade

"Music helps me focus in school and understand different moods." - J.R., 7th grade

"Music is an important part of my life because it allows me to share a story and a unique message with others." - Sarah, 9th grade

"Music makes me feel proud of myself when I play well, and it is fun being able to play my favorite songs whenever I want." Diego, 5th grade

Adult participants:
"Cultivating this local community that is woven together by our shared love of musical theater is one of my greatest joys in life! And to have it all topped off by getting to witness so many examples of vibrant aging makes the gift even more wondrous!" Anna -- Broadway Boomers

"Performing Broadway musical songs with my new favorite friends is the joy of a lifetime!"
-- Lisa, Broadway Boomers
