Conifer Historical Society and Museum

We are a small community with a BIG history! Donations to the Conifer Historical Society make it possible for us to provide wonderful programs on our community's history, in addition to the maintenance of our historic Little White Schoolhouse (the Conifer Area Junction School) on Barkley Road.

Description

We bring the fun to you! Call us to schedule a stop for the Traveling Trunk at your Elementary School. We visit local area schools and provide children the opportunity to look through our trunk of historical treasures. They have the opportunity to dress like pioneers, use the tools their ancestors once did, and hear stories from local residents about what it was like to grow up in Conifer.

Evidence of Program's Success

We visited several local schools in Spring 2019. Each visit was presented to a K-5 audience, and we all had a wonderful time. The teachers are looking forward to future visits! We also enjoyed participating in Colonial Days at West Jefferson Elementary School in March 2019. We are sad to say due to COVID-19 Our visits were all canceled for 2020, but we look forward to continuing this program in 2021.

Evidence of Program's Success

While one of our board members was presenting this topic to a local group, she encountered some people who attended one of the one-room schoolhouses from our presentation. The attendee was then able to share her history with the entire group, and we were able to include the attendee's oral history into our own records to build and grow the knowledge this program!

We have recently started a team of new volunteers who are excited to begin cataloging our current collections into our Museum Software, called Past Perfect.

As of April 2020, we have scanned in over 500 ephemera items into our Collection!
